Depending on how Fontenot plays out, could make House look like peanuts in comparison:

105 scholarships screws the G5 right?

More talent stockpiled on a full ride at the P4.

NIL collective money for non revenue sports is basically lighting money on fire.

Why is this happening?

175K for a softball player is bad enough. A million? Literally a million dollars for a softball player?

Again this must be some super softball fan mega donor who has their head on backwards.

That million could have been used so much more effectively in FB or MBB.

If a donor is giving to an NIL collective for a specific sport then that is where it goes. Some of those donors just want to win in the sport they care about. They don’t care about revenue.

If i had a shit ton of money and didnt have an issue with NIL I would donate a ton to a soccer collective for us before football or basketball.

I mean if you think about it a million dollars to softball or some other less popular sport is way more impactful because it makes a huge impact that can lead to a title vs football where its a drop in the bucket

People give money where they have relationships. Some person (or group) at Texas Tech really wants to see them do well.

The reality is that there’s so much money out there in the pockets of donors that they had likely already given just as much, if not more, to football.

I’m guessing some oil barons grand daughter.

It is truly the Wild West out there in NIL land.

The husband and wife donors are both former TTU athletes - he played football and she played softball. Not first nor largest donation - by far - to their alma mater.

Yes, some of it is oil money. And FWIW, grandpa was a cattle rancher.

Been reading through the various posts about today’s submission of the House settlement. Legal types not too impressed. Well, except, of course, for the plaintiffs’ lawyers, who are seeking just under $500 million in fees! :moneybag:
