College athlete compensation - NIL etc šŸ’°

Buy your gold cards. I get the sense Mike Hill would be one of the last ADā€™s to cut programs but he may eventually have no choice. People are chasing the $ more than anything, itā€™s the American way

Schools that donā€™t have top brand resources are going to have to drop sports to be able to do some of this. If they want to compete in basketball and football - itā€™s the only way.

I could see the SEC culling sports to pump as much money to revenue sports as possible.

They donā€™t even sponsor menā€™s soccer.

Charlotte should have cut sports during the pandemic. It is only a matter of time before sports are cut.

I expect a lot of sports will get cut from AD and moved to club status. They wonā€™t go away but scholarships will and watch all the complaining from the same people demanding the players get paid.

No surprise this is from states without P4 teams. Would be shocked if other states without P4 join in.

Will be shocked if any states with P4 join in because their attorney generals are likely bootlickers to the P4 schools in their states.

So who else would join in if all without P4 joined together.

S Dakota
N Dakota
Montana
Wyoming
Idaho
New Mexico
Maine
Vermont
New Hampshire
Delaware
Nevada

Is that it?

That would be formidable.

Houston Christian seems like a great plaintiff for appeal.

The P4 handing their bill to the lower conferences is horsecrap.

Was told friday what also sucks is you are paying based on current league not former league, so we are paying based on AAC membership not the CUSA membership that we were at.

Why donā€™t we have a Niner beer, bourbon or whatever else that is designed to fund our collective? I know Cabarrus Brewing licenses our name for beers but that deals isnā€™t funding NIL. We need to tap all revenue streams available.

I hope we do have something like that to fund NIL or scholarships. I believe the bourbon that ECU is selling for NIL is produced and sold by a supporter of their athletic department and completely independent of the university. The Pirate Club is much more active in fund raising by the members than the 49er Club. They have regional volunteer leadership throughout the southeast. They have regular events outside of Greenville. Our booster clubs are an apples to oranges comparison. Growing the 49er Club/Athletic Foundation is one of our biggest needs IMHO. Thatā€™s whether we try to compete against the top brands, AAC or lesser know programs.

To put it simply - our fanbase sucks. We have a core group that has supported us for years but under both Judy and Mike growth of the club both in #s and $ has been poor. I know people say we havent won and I get that but look at schools like ECU wh has won here and there, but it isnā€™t like they have been big time winners. Look at South Carolina who didnā€™t win a bowl game until the 90s. People that support the program Ws or Ls is what has been needed. We have fans that for years said Ill support when X - and X kept moving and they never stepped up.

We have fans with major dreams but little skin in the game and then past that we donā€™t have enough just general fans. There is no reason a school our size in a city our size with an aluni base our size shouldnā€™t be able to fill a 15k stadium every damn game.

We probably need to pour all of our money into our sport and try to use that to lift our profile.

I mean thats what App has done and they have a better fanbase than we do at first glance - but it really isnā€™t and they are behind us.

It really just comes down to us needing more fans and better fans.
