That is insane. Beck isn’t even a draftable QB. Wow. What a grift.

I’m wondering who’s the new sugar daddy for the Canes:

BTW, all the NIL figures I see for Beck’s girlfriend Hanna Cavinder include the latter’s twin sister Haley. Most recent I’m finding there is $2M for the U hoopsters.

Bigger question - would a Congressional fix survive the inevitable legal challenges?

That proposed bill is better than the chaos we have today. Not perfect but a start to reining this in.

FWIW, that Illinois bill, as written, would apply to academic scholarships only so wouldn’t amount to much, if anything. Gotta wonder what’s the purpose beyond giving the impression that the sponsor is doing something when in reality he isn’t. In other words, basic politics!

This bill is an abomination.

What does NIL earnings have to do with academic scholarships?

This would be nothing more than a taking of or forced reduction of earnings.

How is that legal or ethical?

If you are earning NIL money pay for your own education. I like reducing the scholarship value based on your NIL income. Donors and students shouldn’t be covering that.

Yep, it’s political posturing. Not going to change anything and the bill’s sponsor knows that.

The bill targets academic scholarships not athletic scholarships.

Academic scholarships are earned by previous academic success.

Has nothing to do with athletics.

Ahh don’t catch that - well it’s how it should work with athletic ones

See that University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana is phasing out its $35 per semester athletic facilities student fee, which contributes less than 2% annually to the Illini’s AD coffers. So makes that proposed NIL bill even more meaningless.

If we removed student fees from Supporting football and men basketball I wouldn’t have near the issue I do with NIL. Environment still sucks but I wouldn’t have the ethical issues I have it now.

If we removed student fees our budget would be cut roughly in half and it’s already too low.

clt says wow, a facebook group!!!

Yup. It is too low, I just can’t rectify charging students fees while athletes are making money. I’ve felt less dirty walking out of a strip club.
