College athlete compensation - NIL etc šŸ’°

I feel very fustrated. I swore that I would not donate to NIL. But, now I feel pressure to donate to NIL, rather than the general fund, to do my part to make sure we can stay in the conference.

It sucks. I refuse to donate to NIL. So I guess now Iā€™m part of the problem and really donā€™t have a right to complain about any sport that relies on NIL payments to maintain a level of competitiveness.

I donā€™t care though. Iā€™m not donating to pay a player who is already getting so much for free. That money is much better given to the pantry or academic scholarships or hell my own kids education funds.

If itā€™s proball they shouldnā€™t need me to donate. If itā€™s it college sports I wouldnā€™t be donating to pay a player.

Lol. I ainā€™t donating a dime to any public school for anything. They get plenty of my tax dollars already.

I save my philanthropy for The Shiners and Make a Wish.

I donā€™t really know what the point is. 2 million roster just isnā€™t enough.

As this college basketball season has clearly shown, just throwing money around wonā€™t cut it. Have to get the right players to be successful.

Itā€™s ridiculous.

Please please just split off already.

No matter what anyone thinks, there are not even 40 programs that can afford this shit. Itā€™s probably like about 24.

I second the split.

They can divide it up into three or four levels for all I care.

I donā€™t give a crap anymore about being in division 1.

Itā€™s been 37 years for me. 37 years of watching the Ninerā€™s bump up against the glass ceiling.

Iā€™m sick of it.

I love college sports and all I want is for us to play at a level we can compete for titles at.

Iā€™m sick and tired of the current status quo.

If the schools outside of the P4 would just wise up we could peel off and reorganize ourselves into a division and regional conferences that make sense along with like minded FCS teams. Cut costs, actually enjoy our sports and continue the actual mission of what we are supposed to be doing.

In a perfect world we are in a conference with A&T, Western, App, Elon, ECU, Gardner Webb, NC Central, Coastal, Furman, Wofford.

Something like that.

All games within driving distance. All schools with limited athletic budgets.

Iā€™ve been wanting a split for 30 years.

It was one thing when we were all playing under the same rules that at least superficially kept the playing field level.

But where were are today? Itā€™s soooo far removed what college athletics was supposed to be.

Iā€™m watching the Drake (29-3) vs Bradley (26-7) conference tournament game.

This is college sports. I want this back. Badly.

Yes, Wright transferred to North Texas from Drake. Practically entire 2023-24 team departed when DeVries left Des Moines for Morgantown.

Does anyone feel like if one or two schools reclassify out of D1 it might open the floodgates?

Especially if itā€™s a school with a good rep.

Letā€™s say Rice and Boston University dipped out.

Does that change the narrative?
