This is unsustainable.

If this happens it’s going to illustrate what a crock of shit the current system is.

If Jimmy Donsldson wants to invest in his de facto hometown’s FBS program, that’s his prerogative.

Afterall, aren’t we expecting that our new AD will make local fundraising a priority?

It’s certainly his prerogative. Other than being a Niner fan, that doesn’t bug me. But I think the point is that he is so high visibility and is not widely regarded as a sports fan, so this would shine a light on how ridiculous the system is if someone could walk in and throw obscene amounts of money at a program with the heavily stated and promoted intention of seeing just how much money it takes to buy a championship.

Texas Tech already caught a decent amount of flack for trying it with Cody Campbell, but at least he was a former TT player and a member of their Board of Regents. He is the classic type of rich alumni booster.

Mr Beast is a showman who never attended ECU and never graduated from college. That’s going to come off as a stunt, no matter how well he sells it.

I kind of want him to do it to be honest. I’d hate it as a Niner fan but I’d love for him to out the system as a CFB / college sports fan - to show how broken it is.

I hope this happens. Will be fun to watch and play against them.

If they don’t make it past the first round of the CFB I guess all the money went down the drain.

How many times can you do this?

That’s what would make this a legit NIL deal. It’s weird but he has a real business and something like this would fit right into his model.

If it’s 100million I’ll be shocked.

Who the hell is Mr Beast??? Damn I’m old I guess

that’s not it. It’s the fact that no one person can keep up with all the diverse media personalities that have come about due to YouTube.

If you had younger kids you would know.

His name is Jimmy Donaldson and he lives in Greenville NC. He is I guess the biggest YouTube personality going. His shtick is that he gives away most of the money his channel generates. He also has some kind of production deal with Amazon for various game shows and such.

He has had some controversy around him and some of his friends who he keeps around as his staff.

Turns out he just did Hot Ones. His episode premiered today:

As gimmicky as that show is, the host tends to ask really good questions.

Some thoughts from around college sports;

If Houston is poor in the Big 12, we must be one step from homeless.

Need to add ā€œor charge a general student athletic feeā€ to that very sarcastic post.

Damn. The football coach wasn’t enjoying his job. He wasn’t enjoying going to work some days.

Welcome to the club pal. You’re like 90% of the population. Cry me a river.

I’m more jealous that he had the luxury of quitting.

I do think it’s depressing how even the supposedly fun / dream jobs also suck just as badly these days. What are we supposed to daydream about / aspire to, if even they have to deal with the soul sucking b.s. that the rest of us have to somehow grind through day after day for our entire miserable lives? There’s apparently no escape from this mortal prison and the crime of being born.

I daydream about retirement.

As do I my friend, but with the way things are going, no $ amount nest egg is going to be safe from the current inflationary freight train. I don’t know if anyone I know will truly be safe from it in retirement.
