Players on teams in new sport specific leagues bargain with the new league (basketball and football).
Players are employed by private entities that operate the teams.
Every DI team isn’t going to be part of a new league.
Just the reality of it.
That is the outcome that I wish people would ask Jay Bilas about on these television interviews. They make stupid statements that he can easily argue against. Force him to explain how all of this works across all of division 1 and the very real consequences. Force him to admit that he doesn’t care if it totally splits d1 athletics and relegates everyone outside the high majors to a d2 level.
He has done that on Twitter but I agree, Id like to see someone press him on TV. He’s definitely Colonel Jessup.

I think the d2 collective bargaining would lead to is one that doesn’t include anyone from the P4. So that would completely change FBS football, and even worse in my opinion, the NCAA tournament.

I want us to compete at a level we can have a shot to win titles.
And if the new D2 becomes financially untenable then let’s go D3 non scholarship.
And if that doesn’t work then let’s shut it down.

IIRC the # 1 pick in the NFL makes somewhere between $8-$10 million a year on his rookie contract. Why in the hell would anyone leave college if you can make more than the NFL???
