Well, having to shell out $2.7B over a decade definitely better than $4B+.
The fact that they have that much money to pay out is the underlying problem.
Actually they donāt, which is why they are seeking a settlement that will allow the damages to be paid over a ten year period.
And, of course, ātheyā is actually the member institutions of the NCAA.
Well thanks NCaA leadership.
Had seen that about the CFPA but donāt think they actually have any members - at least among actual football players. In fact, UABās team signed up with Athletes.org. Hmm⦠![]()
I just donāt see a whole lot of schools able to do this.
See that the Boise State coach has deleted that post. Not surprised!

āThe most interesting decisions to me are projected NBA second-rounders.ā
āThese are the tricky decisions players in that range now have to make. That level of player could conceivably make more next season in college than on a guaranteed deal. Theyāll likely make more in college than if they end up on an NBA two-way. And theyāll definitely make more if they donāt get any sort of guaranteed deal. Not every decision is strictly financial, but the money component could keep more borderline draft picks in school than ever before. Itās also sending more into the portal.ā
Guys making more in college than the NBA will not help college BB whatsoever. Go ahead and blow it up and maje the split.
The NBA is probably loving this.
Keeping the flow of young players who are not ready into the draft process as low as possible makes their product better and makes the players that make it later in their careers bigger names because of their exposure in college.
Decision day coming soon.
Very good read:

A large number of high-major menās basketball programs are working with a $3 million annual budget to spend on the roster, Poneman said. Only a handful are higher. There are high-majors spending as little as $500,000 and everywhere in between. Spending doesnāt necessarily correlate to winning. Some teams spent less than $1 million last season and had great success; others were at the $3 million mark and missed the NCAA Tournament
Thereās a lot of good info in there but I thought this needed to be seen by everyone. FWIW he is talking about MBB only here.
Also this gem:
āThere are stories ā many true ā of kids being promised $100,000 and getting $20,000,ā he said.
Yep, when I read the part about some HM schools spending $500,000, knew he was referring to Minnesota, among others.
Even though House specifically names the FBS P5 conferences as co-defendants, ALL 32 D-I conferences will be on the hook for the $2.7B in damages if the anti-trust case is settled.
