College athlete compensation - NIL etc šŸ’°

… These were among the solutions Jay Bilas offered to @NinerWupAss on Twitter.

He seriously said that.

I guess in his worldview, intercollegiate athletics are only for the blue blood schools. Everyone else should stick to ā€œintramuralsā€ (another choice quote of his).

May Bilas step on Legos barefoot for eternity.

Bilas is a blowhard who loves the sound of his own voice. Norlander and Parrish were just being honest about the probable repercussions of the estimated $2.8B settlement of House v NCAA.

Yeah I loved the intramural comment. Either the dude seriously has no clue about the financial situation at non P4 schools or he just doesn’t give a F about anything other than the P4. He seriously acts like he thinks there are plenty of schools outside of the P4 who are getting rich off of college athletes.

clt says bilas needs to realize it is now the P2, and duke will end up in the same boat as Charlotte.

He also used to regularly attend a couple games per season in Halton. But yes, still a dick.

They can start with coach pay.

There is only so much you can cut your support staff.

But you can cut a lot of expense by not paying a football coach 10 million a year.

Revenue sharing with the players is going to push coaching salaries down. It has to eventually.

Parrish too made that observation about coaching salaries!

See that Drew Weatherford’s brother Will is the chair of the USF Board of Trustees. Weatherford Capital also includes sibling Sam.

And Aresco’s thoughts on private equity and college sports. Hint - not a fan!

FYI for anyone interested - here’s the link to the NCAA Board of Governors membership - 9 voting members and 7 ex-officio non-voting members. NCAA president is listed as ex-officio, but is allowed to vote on those occasions in which there is a tie. Anyway I knew the Baylor U prez is the chair, though her tenure expires soon.

As NA has brought up many times the topic of student fees is going to rear its head.

How do student fees survive in a world where there is revenue sharing.

I don’t see how student fees supporting this model survives legal challenge.

And speaking of the NCAA BoG:

I usually like DeCourcy, but he’s living in a fantasy world if he thinks a House v NCAA settlement will insure March Madness (as we know it) has been secured for at least another decade.

And this basically a total 180° from DeCourcy’s piece as concerns who pays what:

Math is hard, but logical. Find a calculator, or just trust me on this: The other 27 conferences are not responsible for 60% (or even half of that) of the damages; 10% of $2.8 billion is $280 million. That’s what the Other 27 ought to be asked to pay.

But the NCAA, along with the Power 5, want the Other 27 to pay closer to $990 million. And that’s not even the full amount due. More on that in a minute.

Just know this: If the NCAA and Power 5 aren’t stopped, that miscarriage of justice will happen in the next few days.

Bingo! Thank goodness someone in sports media has the balls to say it. My point exactly.

Good job Mr. Doyel!

Glad y’all are keeping up with this massive clusterf*** and breaking it down here. I don’t have the energy, time or stomach to do it, so thanks.
