clt agrees 100%. the t shirt fans may still watch bamer, uab fans arenāt
If there is a split the teams āleft outā will survive and likely thrive.
There are a lot of FCS teams out there that do fine without the big TV contracts.
The top teams will split off and be supported by their alumni communities and the wal mart fans.
Those āleft behindā will adapt and survive and thrive based on the support of their alumni communities.
Will I watch some of the top league game? Yes.
But I will watch and follow the league Charlotte is in just like I do today and follow Charlotte with dedication.
If only 32 split off that could actually be the best thing that ever happened to the rest of the teams because they can reform into smaller regional leagues and get back to what made college football great.
Here is a hypothetical.
How would you feel about a league that had the following teams in it.
This is just 3 states guys. If we pushed it into WV, Maryland, Georgia then it would look even better.
All of these would be drivable games.
Would it work out like this? Obviously not quite. More likely it would be a bit more geographically spread with more former FBS teams but I think you get the idea.
This looks tasty to me.
Charlotte
Western Carolina
App State
Elon
ECU
Duke
Wake
Coastal Carolina
JMU
Wofford
Gardner Webb
William and Mary
NC A&T
Richmond
Campbell
Charleston Southern
VMI
Furman
The Citadel
Old Dominio
Liberty
App
Charlotte (w/30-40k stadium)
Duke
ECU
Maryland
NCSU
South Carolina
Va Tech
Vandy
Wake
Something like that. The important thing is that schools like NCSU, SC, Maryland and Duke arenāt making a 32 team cut.
clt says ncsu is a better fit for the 32 than UNC CHeat
of course CHeat will get in by handing out free shoes and classes
Maybe itās just me, but I find FCS to have the right way of doing things in terms of a playoff.
Hereās the thing: FCS is still wildly successful for the fans, alumni, and schools. It may not be the cash cow that FBS is, but do you really think even a splintered FBS of the P5 will survive? Noā¦pretty soon, itāll be only 12 teams that are part of the āultimateā football package. You think Alabama wants to play UNC or NC State, let alone share in the glory and fame and fortune? No matter how big some schools think they are, even the P5 schools are walking a thin line.
Hereās how I see it:
- The P5 splinters off to claim the major bucks
- The P5 splits into two factions: the majors and the sometimes majors
- The āmajorā P5 schools continue to whittle down and leave others out hoping to sweeten the pot for themselves
- P5 majors ultimately now consist of Michigan, Ohio St, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Clemson, Texas A&M
- Everyone else just reverts to where they were.
clt says it is clearly P2 now
The thing is the majors need someone to beat up on - thatās where the Heels and other big brands with bad football come into play.
Again, if any of the G5 commissioners vote for removing any of the autobids to the 6 top conferences, they should be fired immediately.
It supposedly takes a unanimous vote to pass changes, though I was unable to find a copy of the CFP bylaws.
Just a reminder that the CFP BOD actually made up of 11 college presidents - one from each conference plus independent Notre Dame.

Power conferences really do hate the G5, donāt they.

What in the hell are you thinking Aresco??
Can someone explain to me WHY he is okay with cutting a G5 champion autobid slot? I see zero upside in doing so. Zero. Even playing in a CFP game can be transformative for a G5 program.
Maybe he is thinking the AAC is primed to get that spot and if it lets in two G5s that undercuts the AAC status? Just a guess.
IMO that type of thinking is hubris. Pure hubris. Foolish.
Iām thinking he knows thereās going to be a change and just trying to get in a plug for the 5+7 model as opposed to what Skanky would like to see happen.
But the vote has to be unanimous. Who gives a crap what Sankey thinks? He is not the boss.
