Dellengerâs piece mentions that Aresco would prefer retention of the 6+6 but would be receptive to the 5+7 so as to preserve at least one spot for a G5.
Trey Smith claims that the vote doesnât have to be unanimous to keep the 12 team format past 2025.
I call bullshit. That cedes leverage to the P5 that they donât have. I dare them to try to split off. Itâs an empty threat.
If itâs 6+6 next year, we need a G5 victory in that first round bad.
We have 2 seasons of the 6+6 system coming up: 2024 and 2025, already locked in, unless the G5 leaders vote to give it up for later season concessions.
In my opinion, that is two years to prove the value of the system. That is an absurdly tall order, but that is what itâs going to take. Perhaps we will be aided by the recently loose transfer portal rules and the extra COVID years, but it really isnât a test of what having that kind of long term access for the G5 could do to create more competitive parity in college football.
Doesnât matter. We need to show the point anyway. While I would love for us to be the program that wins hearts and minds on the issue, the truth is, for the next 2 seasons, my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams will probably be whichever ones give us the best chance to win a CFP playoff game (or more).
IMO, it aligns with our long term interests to root for some G5 programs (preferably several) to bust the paradigm, and honestly over perform, for the sake of the longshot of maintaining a 6+6 type system (2 G5 autobids is the important factor) for the long haul.
I kinda wanna see all G5 fans get on the same page here. This is bigger than any of our individual programs, and affects all G5 programs equally.
Okay so Aresco IS trying to keep 6+6 for '24 and '25 if possible.
My comments above apply. I wouldnât budge an inch on it unless we get some meaningful concessions for '26 and beyond, besides 5+7, which is just status quo if the PAC goes away.
Just disregard the first post:

Requires unanimous approval.
Theyâre going to freaking breakaway anyway.
I say F them. Do 6+6 for the next 2 years. Show the nation what we theyâre getting ready to destroy.
Yes, breakaway is the plan:

Donât listen to the naysayers - this isnât why we donât need to expand the CFP. This is precisely why we do need to! And why we need 6+6. Long term.
I promise everyone that if the powers that be had the balls to adopt and maintain 6+6, those stats in McMurphyâs post would change in a few years. And quickly after that.

This would be fun.
