I fail to understand why they donât do a 10+2 then. Every conference champion makes it, then two at-large. It would effectively not change the status quo but would allow for smaller programs to get there name out there.
10+2 is easy to understand why it will never happenâŚGREED. 6+6 is the best scenario âŚbut even with that, greed is pushing hard against it. Sadly, greed is killing college sports across the board of big revenue sportsâŚNIT is a perfect example.
No. Just one out of 12 spots though. Donât ever expect them to award any at larges to G5.
The G5 reps had to vote on this, so I guess we have to assume they agreed to give up two years of 6+6 for long term assurances that the 5th spot would at least be held for them.
I still think that is myopic. In 2 years the SEC and B1G will be ready to leave and do their own thing. In my opinion we should have milked them for the extra berth and $$$ for the two years (2024 and 2025). Thereâs no guarantee theyâll still be playing âFBSâ or âCFPâ football in 2026.
Meanwhile that also means that the G5 champ is going to be relegated to a non bye situation. The 5th slot is just a 1st round guaranty and nothing more.
