That raises an interesting question. Could a p5 āIvy Leagueā conference be sustainable? Most of those schools get a huge amount of money from being associated with their conferences. Would the cross country travel make sense without the conference dollars?
A conference comprised exclusively of current private/religious P4 schools would definitely have some athletic prowess:
Baylor
Boston College
BYU
Duke
Miami-FL
Northwestern
Notre Dame
SMU
Syracuse
TCU
USC
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest
Interesting to see so many conferences that donāt understand they are already left behind. If they think the CFP is a legitimate opportunity for any but 4 conferences they are kidding themselves. The sooner they move on the better.
College football has not always been about winning the national championship. Win the games on your schedule and see what happens.
The B10 and the SEC will do everything they can to make sure itās just them.
I mean itās basically just been those two with the exception of Clemson and FSU, which are destined for one of those two leagues. The only teams that arent on the radar to join those two leagues that made the CFP is Sincy and TCU.
clt says it is already the P2
everyone else is just enjoying the tailgate
Yep. The G5 should start their own playoff and maybe even allow the B12 and ACC to participate. If they are willing to take a smaller portion of the revenue. Since they donāt really bring much to the table.
The B12 and ACC would never agree to that and why the heck would the G5 want that?
Itās a G5 playoff idea for the conferences that have been excluded from revenue and opportunity.
Do you want a Kansas or a Wake forest to come in and crash the party?
Sorry It was sarcasm. Thought it was clear. But I would prefer a G5 playoff over bowl games. Doesnāt mean you couldnāt still hold onto the 1 CFP spot as long as the P2 will allow, but thatās only 1 school getting that spot. Let everyone else do something more interesting than the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
Gotcha. Thought you were serious.
Iām with you on the G5 spot to CFP and G5 playoff for the rest. Would be sweet.
Could get title sponsors similar to bowls for the playoff games.
This 100%. Only 1 team ever going to the BCS per year from any conference outside of SEC, Big 10, Big 12, and ACC. Let that one team go be in that playoff each year. The remaining need a playoff and it could still incorporate bowl games assigned to those leagues.
Of course, all just speculation at this point:
I donāt watch anything that doesnāt include Charlotte
I pretty much watch every game
I have gone from watching NFL NBA NHL and all college football and basketball and all kinds of soccer to basically just CLT sports and soccer and now that I have eliminated CLT basketball and most of MLS - I have dropped nearly all sports except CLT football, English soccer and National Team Soccer.
