Computer Virus

I’m pretty positive that what I have now on my computer is a computer virus. No clue what kind. But it is very important to note that whatever it is is causing my floppy disk drive (or something else possibly) to be accessed over and over randomly and the sound it makes is driving me nuts, so working on the computer isn’t easy.

Today, I went to some website which could have been malicious and soon after several things occurred. A second window of Firefox which never loaded completely opened on its own. Then a “My Computer” window opened with my C drive already selected and showed numerous random files in there of various types had been added to that directory. Not in a folder, just thrown in the C: directory.

I have no idea what is going on nor what to do. I believe it is my OS and think I need to contact Microsoft. If anyone can offer help I would love it. I’m pretty damn stressed about this.

I already tried to fix it myself. I deleted those files after finding them in the C: directory. Wow— as I type this something has just happened…

A random song started played. Only things that are open is this single tab for Firefox, an auto-protect result from Norton Anti-virus, and a My Computer window. Absolutely no clue where the song came from. It was some kind of dance song.

I’m posting this now before my computer locks up. It’s still making random noises through the speakers. More to follow.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Stop looking at porn.

Cont… so after deleting those files, I tried system restore. Nothing. After restarting the first time, is said that this file could not be found or something: “Druciqivuxe.dll” no idea what that file relates to.

Then restarting the computer got to be messy. It would sometimes not load Windows. Like I would get my background screen, my mouse, and I could open the task manager, but no processes that would have been labeled “Will” (that’s the User Name) ever started, and explorer.exe didn’t start. So I would restart the computer again.

I don’t understand this at all. All my processes I see seem to be processes I have seen before tho I have not checked them all. I don’t understand how my computer can be getting damaged and there not be a process running.

For the most part, when Windows actually loads it still works ok. Slower than normal, and that god awful floppy disk noise keeps going off, but it seems okay.

The computer is running on Windows XP and is 5 years old about. The anti-virus software I believe is outdated which certainly doesn’t help. When it does find something it keeps saying something about a trojan. Sometimes it deletes the file, sometimes the file it find it says it can’t do anything to.

If you have any ideas feel free to PM or post here or call me if you can get my number from someone (don’t want to post it). I have no idea if I’ll still be able to get on since the computer seems like it could go at any moment.

I’m guessing you have not backed up an image of your OS lately. If you have, pop in your Windows CD and revert back to a saved image. If you have not, seriously think about doing this in the future. It’s really simple with Windows now.

Without a backup, the only sure-fire way to get rid of the problem is a clean install. For example, you don’t know what registry edits were performed. Thus, just deleting files is not enough.

And you don’t know what information the possible virus is scraping from your system, so I’d advise you cut your network connection to the computer and begin the process of clean install ASAP.

Yea that's what I have. Not sure if it's still been getting updated but either way it failed.

I’ve never known about saving an image. What would that do?

With a clean install what would be removed from the computer?

How do I cut my network connection to my computer?

Tell your computer to wear a condom the next time it puts out for a modem.

Back up your data and reinstall. MSDNAA offers Windows for free to download, if you don’t have a CD handy. Trying to remove viruses is usually more work than it’s worth.

:wow: random music?

found this link on Google. A lot to sort thru – but there may be something worthwhile.

Have you gone to task manager and clicked on “processes” to see what specific process is dragging down your CPU, and even more importantly, if it’s coming in from the outside?

Have you been to Microsoft’s virus protection site to run their free virus scan? Maybe you can get some good advice from them (and maybe not). It won’t hurt.

Something else… on the Internet task bar, seleect “tools”/“internet options”/“security” and try tightening up security restrictions.

I realize you’ve probably looked into these, but just in case you haven’t…

It says something about our school, doesn't it? :unhappy:

Shame on you.

It took the Macintosh trolls 12 replies to get in? You’re slacking, ladies.

Anyway, whoever said that trying to remove the virus is more effort than it’s worth is right. Backup important data, make a list of all programs you know you want to reinstall, and most importantly, download the crucial system drivers (chipset, network, video) and then reload the machine with a clean wipe.

Get a Mac.

funny my roomate has a Mac book and his computer just crashed yesterday…with a virus.

Reboot in Safe Mode and then run scans for viruses, adware, etc. You may not have to rebuild your pc if this cleans it up.
