Super conference wonât have to worry about non-members because wonât be playing them anyway. And definitely wonât care about the disappearance of conferences like the Pac-12.
If the super conference is 30 or so top brands and those brands canât pad wins outside the super conference some of those fanbases are gonna get really pissed and I donât see that as sustainable.
What will they do when they donât win all the games and only win by 1 point?
I have serious doubts in the super conference model for many reasons. Blood is thicker than water and people are likely to support their alma maters over the winningest team a few states away in which they have no connection.
Iâm not confident the TV money will exist to fund the super conference. ESPNâs subscriber base is on a trend to be cut in half. Plus the TV networks will have less inventory because only a hand full of teams in the super conference matter.
Why wouldnât the biggest dogs like Ohio State or Alabama demand a larger portion of the revenue over the other super conference teams like Purdue or Mississippi State?
Who are the super conference teams going to play in a 12 game schedule? Will SEC teams for example stop playing body bag games to pad their win totals?
College football is always changing. 100 years ago the Ivy League teams and Army were dominant . For decades teams in the Midwest won many championships now southern teams are winning them all.

Once again, I like how Aresco frames this. Some of these schools are trying to move solely for the branding. They arenât getting the money.
Heâs not wrongâŠit is about branding.
But those teams arenât wrong eitherâŠthat branding is a pretty big deal.
TV/media $$ payouts, perception and statusâŠwhich the perception and status part brings in more money from fans, alum and businesses that want to be associated with that brand too.
Any College program would âsell its soulâ to stay P5.
How do you explain to your fans you are going from P5 to G5?
Not happening, unless absolutley forced to. SMU is giving away the
farm to go P5.
Yeah, SMU is taking a crap in the bed it will probably be sleeping in for a long time. At least they have Dallas Fort Worth. I am not convinced Memphis is as grand an attraction as Memphis thinks it is. I have been there more than once, and I donât feel compelled to back. I probably would, but it ainât something to ponder in excitement. Compared to Memphis, Charlotte is a much better destination place, we just need to start stacking wins and be respectful of the AAC home. Personally, I think the ACC wants to embarrass Stanford, which if true, I can fully support.
SMU is in a situation not many others are. Their boosters will fund them now that itâs legal to cheatâŠ
How do they even still have deep-pocket boosters? Arenât most from the 80âs dead now? Pretty impressive if SMU has kept their big fish on the line for 4 decades of G5 oblivion.
WTH ? Who is Scott Shook?
Cocaine is one hell of a drug.
Thank god heâs atleast trying. It might be an uphill, impossible battle. Butâ heâs atleast trying.
clt says boone nc and greenville nc did nothing for the acc hq
And go where? If thereâs only a playoff for those 30 or so teams, the money is going to be infinitely more than other options. Once someone is âinâ, I donât see anyone wanting to leave. Arkansas has been in the SEC for 30 years and hasnât won an SEC championship yet. 50 years since Indiana has won the B10. Hell, itâs been 40 years since CH has won the ACC.
The other thing is, with less teams in a top tier league, I do think there will be more parity. For example, if Rivals has 250, 4 and 5 star recruits, those players are currently available to 130ish teams in the same division. Those same players will moe than likely be distributed among 30 schools (or whatever that number is going to be) in the new structure.
If those teams are only playing each other and they canât play other teams to pad wins and there is no steps made to introduce parity you donât think those fans and boosters are going to get upset eventually?
The NFL works because every team has a chance. The only way this works long term is either they lock up the league and push parity (good luck getting Bama, etc to sign off on that) or you introduce relegation so that losers still get to experience winning (good luck getting lower brands to accept that).
Realignment is never over.
huh------interesting. Thanks.
