The Abbey is hugely popular with families in the north east. They have a pretty decent evening class offerings as well. Decent number of gaston county residents continue their education there. Add in the functioning monastery and one of the only 152 basilicas in north america I think the Catholic church would take care of them.
Due to the birth rate being low many colleges will have to close in the next 20 years because there will not be enough students to sustain them.
Thereâs also the fact that males are are not attending college in similar numbers as females, with women constituting 58% of undergraduate enrollment vs 42% for men.
I would have loved those stats when I was at Charlotte.
There is also a lack of need to obtain degrees in fields where certifications trump a degree.
I think college is fine - and even âuselessâ degrees are helpful as the process of obtaining a degree in nearly any field teaches critical thinking and the ability to write. But the costs are out of control and is yielding other models.
A big threat though is the distance education model. I know Chris Fuller told me from a strategy point of view thatâs on many schools radar. If you arenât on campus then You arenât building those emotional connections that yield fans and donors . Add into that the univ of phoenix models and the traditional model is facing major comp.
Interesting looking at online schools. While most probably think of Phoenix, Southern NH, Strayer etc, some of the largest are actually associated with brick and mortar schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Maryland, and Purdue. And, of course, there are the religious affiliated Grand Canyon and Liberty.
NinerAdvocate posted this yesterday in the university headlines thread:
This is not sustainable.
Just a reminder the fiscal issues at UCLA predate NIL and a prime reason in their move to the Big Ten:
From that LA Times piece:
Unless I am really mistaken economic cycles always have downturns and usually the time between the downturns determine the severity of the downturn.
What happens to these athletic departments that are running these type of deficits when money is available and flowing when the next downturn hits. HmmmmâŚ
I question what have they done to cut costs?
Most organizations and people cut costs when they canât balance their budget. Especially when they have a lot of revenue.
UCLA is not operating at a sustenance level of income.
Itâs ridiculous.
Jay would say itâs simple. UCLA should be D2.
Six paragraphs of nothing.
Iâm hearing strong rumors UNCCh is making plans to make a big leap sooner more than later. Imminent was a word used
Agreed.
And why would you sign a grant of rights for the weakened mountain west?
Hope youâre right!!!
I root for chaos!!!
