Conference Realignment

USM’s new AD discusses the possibility of CUSA realignment.

UTC might have wanted to join the Sun Belt as their 12th member. Trying to be the 13th member of a conference creates scheduling difficulties, not to mention bad luck.

Timesfreepress.com: Football attendance decline may lead UTC to look elsewhere
I understand why UTC would want to move to the Sunbelt - more money. But why would the Sunbelt want them when the whole article is emphasizing how horrible their attendance is and how little money they bring in. Seems like a lose situation for the Sunbelt.

I thought we were charter members of cusa. Guess that was voided when we left for a while.:clown_face::clown_face:

I doubt the Sunbelt expands again but they did bring Coastal Carolina in, they averaged 8,392 fans last year.

With Valpo officially accepting this week the Valley’s invitation to join the conference for the 2017-18 season, its soon to be former home weighing its options. Looks like the Horizon will be a nine member league next year, but going forward it is studying models that could increase its ranks to as many as 14 or 16 schools.

It’s a shame that JMU gets more fans at football games than we do.

They’ve won two national titles since the turn of the century and it’s Harrisonburg, VA - not exactly a lot of other attractions competing for the entertainment dollar.

I get that, but we are in a metro with over 1 million people, on a campus with close to 30,000 students, playing FBS. Our attendance is pretty sad.

there are roughly 2.2 million metro…and growing at this point. our attendance is quite sad. that’s what happens when you do no advertising.

Let’s not overlook the obvious. When you have a team that has won two National Championships recently, and went 14-1 last year while outscoring their opponents by 382 points, putting butts in the seats is infinitely easier than what we are trying to do.

Man, WINNING will have a 1000x more affect on attendance than advertising. What a joke y’all keep telling yourselves. Also, don’t forget there are many fans/alums of other teams in this “metro with over a million people”, who don’t give one squat about our school or athletics, and never will.

two national championships in 1aa but sure, two national championships.
people like a winner. Apps attendance was decent but nothing special until the three-year run of championships. Their alums didn’t care that it was at the fcs level.

Gotta wonder if Chattanooga and/or James Madison will make inquiries about joining the Sun Belt with football-only members Idaho and New Mexico State exiting after the 2017 season - the former becoming a full member of the Big Sky and reclassifying football to FCS while the former will become an FBS independent.

JMU already turned the Sun Belt down once. There’s really nothing for them there except maybe App. They wanted in CUSA.

They’ll probably end up in this DII league with us app ODU Coastal and Troy that all of you are so desperate to relegate us to.
