Hosting the C-USA Hoops Tourney would be nice, but I would not consider it one of our top priorities at this point. If we are asking folks in the communnity to get behind us and support something financially, I would rather it be our football program.
True, we never hosted a Metro or CUSA Basketball Tourney. If we had no one living n Charlotte would have known it anyway, thus eliminating the âlocal followingâ.
Our poor overall record/performance/etc. hosting SBC tourneys didnât do us any favors with the Metro and C-USA.
So soccer will start in the fall of 2013 along with basketball, volleyball etc. and the spring sports will start in the spring of 2014.
Thanks for the info guys.
I wish it could come sooner, I am very excited about starting new rivalries with our new foes (and having our athletes travel to nice southern cities as opposed to butt f*ck nowhere upstate NY). Iâm still so happy this change happened.
Yes, Iâm sure the athletes have been longing for a trip to B-F-N-Ruston as a replacement for the one to western NY.
No landing on snow-covered runways in Ruston.
In fact Ruston has a 5000 ft runway airport 2 miles from campus and Shreveport Regional Airport has 8000 and 6000 ft runways and are 70 flat-land miles from LaTechâs campus.
As soon as light rail arrives, hosting the basketball tournament could happen in Halton Arena because of the excellent accessibility to the city and from the city to the school. This could save us tons od money⌠but it also assumes a small population of fans actually care about basketball in CUSA (which seems to be the case). Only negative about this concept is that you canât buy beer in Halton Arena like Bobcats Arena.

Better restaurants, more bars, and better pedestrian connectivity are a must.

Concord airport is less than 5 miles from our campus with a 7600 foot runway. The race teams now land 737s there, and the city is improving the taxiways to support even larger aircraft. I would not be surprised at all if visiting teams that use charter flights (as opposed to scheduled flights) did not use Concord instead of Charlotte-Douglas.

I wouldnât be surprised either. With the gate fees at CLT and how busy it is it makes perfect sense for Concord to pick up some traffic.
clt says the hassles that come with commercial flights (tsa) make it unlikely that concord would go that route. More executive and general aviation is the future.

Google âcommercial reliever airportâ or go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reliever_airport
In short, commercial service will be a tough sell at jqf.
