Congrats out of East Carolina University!

I heard that they approved a football team for your school, what an exciting time for all of the students and alumni of Charlotte. I remember a few years back this movement starting to get traction within the message board community, and I also remember buying a T-Shirt in support of the movement over at a bar on East Blvd. I’m so happy to see this coming to fruition. College football is the heart of every university and I’m thrilled that it’s finally going to be a part of the Charlotte community.

The effort and follow-through shown by the participants in this forum (and others) is to be commended. I am a firm believer in ā€œif you build it, they will comeā€. I have no affiliation to the school, but if ECU isn’t playing at home or on TV during the Charlotte games, you’d best believe my rear-end will be in attendance at the Charlotte games prior to kickoff.

Again, congratulations on all your efforts and accomplishments. It must be one heck of an exciting time to be a 49’er!

thanks for the props…nice to see that on here

Pretty much summed up my thoughts as well.

Hummell, you got a new name? Did you forget your password, or was that on the other board? Thanks either way!

Thanks Hummell! I think most college sports fans in the area are overall pleased with the decision. The question is will they assist in paying for it, my guess is that they will.

Thanks for the support and we hope to see you in the stands in 2013.

Gosh, I haven’t posted in so long…it may have been on the other board. Is it ok if I stick with this one?

What are the thoughts on playing in Memorial Stadium for the 1st couple of years? I’m sure the rent would be low enough for you to save up enough money to fund an on-campus stadium of your own (tell me when I start rehashing already discussed topics).

I think your new name is good  As for Memorial, I believe that’s almost completely ruled out. I wouldn’t have any problem with it temporarily, but it appears that it would need significant work to make attractive to the community.

…and just about everything is going to be ā€œrehashingā€ but it’s 49ers football, so we don’t mind.

Thank for the well wishes, if we can build a football program and athletic booster club anywhere near as successful as ECU I would be very happy.

Yeah, it’s a dump, but so was the Citrus Bowl where UCF played prior to last season. It’s only a temporary solution and it wouldn’t keep the people from coming out to see the Charlotte product. Looks like the rates are good at $6,185.00 per day and/or percentage of gate - 12%. You guys could generate some serious revenue.

It takes a little bit of time, but Charlotte can certainly do it.

I’ve been to memorial a tonnn of times and I do have to say it’s going to be weird seeing college football played in a stadium half that size assuming that’s what we build :o It doesn’t seem that big but it seats 24k I believe.

See Hummell, your using too much common sense. You have to make it much more complicated before an otherwise easy and reasonable solution can be reached.

Finally some more ECU love around this board… nice to have you on Hummell… always been a big pirate fan since I moved down here bout 8 years ago (My big bro is an alum)

Good to hear it!

Trust me, when that parking lot (and all surrounding lots) start filling up with green and white with grills and smoke everywhere, footballs flying around and Jimmy Buffet blasting out of the speakers at the tailgates 6 hours prior to kickoff…it won’t matter what the stadium you’re playing in looks like. It’ll be loud and it will be rowdy and the City of Charlotte will wonder what in the hell took them so long.
