Cornbread discussion

Cornbread was on 610am at 5pm saying he was annoyed/confused why the school won’t call him to at least let him know about the coaching hire before he has to hear about it at the same time as rest of the public. And to the fact that he doesn’t expect to give input but just to be given that respect since he’s the most famous alumni from Charlotte (even more than clay Aiken) and the AD will call him for other things that benefit the AD but not this. Said he doesn’t want the coaching job, maybe when he was 55 but now he is 60 and doesn’t want it. He said he hopes the Charlotte coaching staff and AD takes care of its own like duke and unc does, and said he hopes Dinkins can make the staff.

He was positive when asked about the potential of niner basketball and said he liked the hire of Price. He liked he hired staff with experience and felt that was the downfall of coach major.

I do like he doesn’t sugar coat anything. The other host asked if he was going to stick around a little and talk, and he straight up said on air, am I gonna get paid??? Haha

My guess is they didn’t call him this time or in the past because he’s not a professional coach. We actually need someone who makes their living from coaching correct??

Corn bread just wants to be on the “inside” and “in the know” and given a little respect from the AD. Dude is 60, can’t someone throw him a bone once in a while. I’m not an expert on the bad blood but he does get on the radio and talk about Charlotte… Not saying the AD is giving him ammo but assign a rookie at the AD to give him a 5 min call each month. Lol. Doesn’t hurt to have a former NBA finals mvp promoting the school.

Exactly, respect is a two way street. Whatever the issue is, both sides need to just get the hell over it and reconcile for the good of the program.

Cornbread is a huge fan of Cornbread. The relatioship between him and the AD are strained for sure though. Each side is probably at fault.

Or was that a cardboard cutout, I’m not sure.

It really is a shame that the best player in our history is so distant from the program. Whoever is at fault, it’d be great to find some way to smooth things out if that’s even possible. That said, I’m not sure why he should get a heads up about the new coach before the media. Is that something that is typically done for former greats at other schools?

He was in a commercial for the 49er Perks program which is through the Alumni Assoc not the AD.

Cornbread made it clear that Judy has his # as do others and that he has been called to help promote events. He indicated he gets asked to help and has accepted the requests. He simply would like the respect of getting asked his opinion. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.----Also, not sure why you guys are hating on him. He did put us on the map and should be respected by our fan base.

I’ve been coming to games for the last 21 years and I can count on one hand or two fingers how many times I have ever seen Cornbread.

I don’t want to run him down because yes he did put us on the map, but this agenda that he is pushing that he is always involved and helps us with fundraisers and other events is FAR from the truth.

To the best of my knowledge, during that time he has lived in Boston and been a part of the Celtics radio broadcast. Might have a little scheduling conflict to be able to make to very many games.

I have given more money to the University than Cornbread has (you probably have too), and nobody called me to ask my opinion. To paraphrase Ric Flair, if you want to be the man, you have to act like a man. Some of our successful alumns look for ways to give back to the school in recongnition for the part it played in their success. Cornbread really believes the University owes him, and he is still waiting for them to pay up.

Yes, he does Boston radio so not sure he could make ANY home Niner games. He’s a positive advocate for the program and we should celebrate him not bitch about him.

Mark Price

Are you sure? Most of the time he is talking about us, it’s in a negative, arrogant way.

This…I hope he does start coming around more and love his “name” recognition for the program, but lets face it----he is being an arrogant jerk, as per usual. Sorry, its the truth.

MP going to be for or against gold unis?
