One thing to keep in mind when looking at these rankings is this one of the best classes in the last 25 years. Wilderness would have been ranked around #50 to 75 in last years class, Tatum would be about the same. Booker would be top 100 and Andersen and Dewhurst would be top 150.

I was thinking the same thing…about the quality and early hype of the class.

The Rankings are giving me the “Iti” feeling now (HUGE letdown possibly coming).

Harmon is also ranked #41 by Prepstars.com

These rankings aren’t always accurate to say the least; but they’re usually a pretty good indication of a player’s capabilities. I think we have a good class coming in but wouldn’t get too excited. Wilderness and Williams are easily the most exciting guys…the others are fill-ins in my opinion. Booker could be good but why would other schools not offer Booker? Other than Northwestern and a few other mid-majors. Same for the other guys. Essentially, we didn’t beat out any big schools for these guys, other than maybe Wilderness.

Again, I think it’s a good class but definitely not one of our best.

You bring up an interesting point, but I think the answer to the question of why none of the big schools were recruiting Booker is a simple case of laziness. When you look at the recruiting of the school in the major conferences you see a heavy reliance on the recruiting of kids listed and ranked by all the major services. I think schools have started to rely on services too much. And keep in mind 75% of the rankings and evaluating is done during the summer. If a kid doesn’t play a heavy AAU summer schedule he tends to get rated much lower or not rated at all compared to the kids that play all summer.

Also keep in mind a lot of the rankings are based largely on who is recruiting the players. So if Carolina of Duke start recuiting some kid very early his rating will be alot higher than it would be if Charlotte and George Mason are recruting a kid.

it should be noted that Carlos Williams is listed as the 7th best overall JUCO player in the nation.

also, jimmyhat is right on about summer AAU ball influencing rankings. jerrell lewis didnt play AAU during the summer, so no one had heard of him. i think he would be top 150 if he played for a high profile AAU team. i mean, he averaged 25 pts and 8 assists for one of the top schools in the country, and was also nominated for the mcdonals AA game

charles dewhurst was also nominated for that the list has around 50 players from each state

I’m as loyal as anyone, but you’re reaching if you think this class is anything special. This is not a Top 25 class and doubtful to oven break the Top 50 barrier. That is a fact of life in the new A10. Sorry.

This class was ranked #22 by Hoopmasters.com. Altough they did have Tatum on that list. But they didn’t have Booker.

Tatum + Booker = Top 20 class on Hoopmasters

Rankings are overrated. We have guys coming in who can play and they are winners. I’ll take our 2 (possibly 3) state players of the year along with two other HS guys who pretty much carried their teams. And the best JUCO PG in the country and a 6’9" shooter can come too.

The only accurate way of ranking is after the players graduate. Tell me Eddie wasn’t one of the 100 best players in his high school class…same with Leemire by the time he is done.

Eddie was actually ranked similar to Wilderness…in the 70’s to 80’s.

I always heard he was between 100-150. My mistake.

If anybody has rankings for our guys of other publications OTHER than Rivals.com / Juco Junction.com, Scout.com or Hoopscooponline.com, email them to me or post them here.

I’ve now added this as a “sticky” thread.

I’ve checked Hoopmasters and saw no spring '06 rankings that showed us in the Top 25. I stand by my statement that we won’t have a Top 25 class and will be hard pressed to crack the Top 50 by any legitimate ratings service.

I’m not going to fault you for having lowered expectations when it comes to recruiting. If that makes you happy, that’s great. The fact of the matter is that we as fans have no choice but to live with it and make the best of it. I’m just stating a fact that this was not a highly sought-after recruiting class. The overwhelming majority of schools we competed against for these guys were mid-majors. Go back and look at every recruit, look at the press clippings and look at the names of the schools(who actually offered) we competed against. It IS what it IS.
