My guess is Cable TV may catch on again if all the streaming services keep raising prices.
Agreed. I use my FIL’s directv login for everything. But if I didn’t have that I would probably get some cable/satellite package just for the sports and cut back on the streaming subscriptions.
I am sure this is great for those really into fantasy, but I just don’t get why the sports networks lean into fantasy and betting so much (yes I understand its $$$).
ESPN has gone so far into fantasy and betting that it now covers WWE like it isn’t scripted
Two different things IMHO. One is a scripted outcome, the other isn’t (well depending on if you think games are fixed).
They are trying to cater to the fans who only watch the games for their fantasy leagues. I think it’s a smart move, though I prefer being a team fan rather than a fantasy fan, personallly.
The cable companies are diversifying. Comcast and Spectrum are joint owners of a streaming device called Xumo. You can stream though most services and connect to regular cable channels. They are also the fastest growing mobile providers. While the regular cable box might go away at some point, the larger cable companies are likely going to stick around a while.
Probably as ISPs more than anything else.
I still can’t cut the cord. I’m paying $120 for cable. Whats the cheapest “cutting the cord” service that still gives me all of the best channels (espn, Fox News, cnn, bravo, etc)? Unless I’m wrong, I may save like $40/month max?
YouTube TV is the best, and you’ll save just shy of $50 / mo, which is still almost $600 / yr. Plus I just like the app, the unlimited DVR, and the lack of cable boxes so much better. I was hesitant to try it when I first started as was my father in law, but neither of us have looked back. You’ll probably ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner.
At this point it’s no longer the super bargain it was, but it also has damn near every channel you can think of plus a bunch more. There’s a 4k option too.
You can have a full TV guide, or create profiles for each family member with favorite channels listed. It also suggests shows / movies to watch, including from your DVR.
You can have the DVR record every episode of your favorite show, and every game of your favorite team or even every game of your favorite sport (or both). You can skip the commercials on DVR playbacks. You can also pull up shows on demand that you didn’t record. If you click on the channel on the left you will pull up every show available on that network.
I also pause my subscription during the summer for a few months when we really don’t use it. Saves me the $70 for each month I pause it.
clt says yttv needs to bring back mlb network
Subtitle somewhat misleading about “free” streaming but good overview of the various services:
