Cutting the Cord

clt knows a guy doing this. ironically he works for a communications company

I won’t lie, the service does buffer some times. However, for about $50 for half a year i deal with any buffering, etc. Overall, we use it primarily for my wife who is from South America and can get over 70 channels from her home country. My son is a Panther’s fan so we also use it to watch those games since they are never shown n VA, We get all the sports channels, even the ones in the UK and Spain which we use to watch soccer matches. The service is not perfect, but for what it costs verses what it provides, it’s definitely worth checking out.

This WORKED.

Just a couple of mouse clicks to save $66. Worth it.

Beating around the bush - but consolidation is inevitable for all the reasons he discussed. We will be back to something that resembles cable eventually, though at what price points (and with affordable a la carte TV seeming as elusive as cold fusion), it’s hard to say.

Serious question here. Do any of you guys have You Tube TV? My spectrum bill is out of control. Hell they charging $15 a box now and I have several.

If you guys have YT how do you like it?

I love it except it isn’t cheap anymore. $85 before you add on anything like HBO, etc.

However, functionally it is the best TV delivery system I have ever had. So much customization. If you have a good Internet connection it is highly reliable - haven’t had any issues since the first year I had it.

The standard package is up to 1080p with 2 maximum concurrent streams / screens.

One way, for now, to potentially cut the cost is to share an account. If you pay for the 4k upgrade ($10/mo), that also comes with unlimited streams (to email accounts setup as family members or just have everyone share the same sign on). For now, they don’t ask questions about where all the sign ons are geographically so you can share that account across an entire family. I am doing this and paying half of the $95/mo bill. I hope they don’t cut down on this because at that price, and with some content in 4k (especially big sporting events), it’s an absolute steal.

I personally do Hulu because of the price break since I’m already doing Disney and ESPN plus. They are going up in price this month and I may reconsider.

I also have Hulu+Live TV. The thing I like most is that it has everything ESPN has to offer. I can watch any 49er match, even women’s lacrosse. That and I get local live channels. But yes, price is going up again next month.

Yeah the Hulu + Live TV is really good for sports. But it has slowly crept up in price from around $70 per month when I started to around $90 now. The only thing I wish it had is a way to watch the Hornets. But usually by a month or two into the season my desire to watch them is gone so it’s probably good I’m not spending extra for that.

Dropped cable about two years ago. Then got ESPN+ via a bundle, Paramount + and Peacock primarily for sports and then Netflix for movies, etc. We recently dropped ESPN+, Paramount+ and Peacock and switched to an IPTV service which carries all the sports I’ll ever need plus loads of movies. It’s how I watch all soccer/NFL/NCAA games now.

Reading different articles that the Hulu name is going away. Disney is merging with Fubo and incorporating more content into Disney+ app. We really like Hulu + Live TV in my households. I get to watch just about all the college sports I want, my wife likes all the local channels, and my 5 year old daughter the classic Disney stuff. Maybe it is just a name change but will be bummed if the current service gets canned.

I’ve been wondering what might change with this too. I really like what I get with it now and hope they don’t change. I would really prefer to pay less and not get Disney+, but with Disney taking over I’m sure that will never be an option.

I wonder if anyone cares. Feels like it’s been at least 20 years since I even bothered to see if it existed.

But for you youngins … The routine in the 90s was Sportscenter on repeat all morning then MTV the rest of the day until maybe ESPN had a game that night. Every single dorm room and apartment. MTV was constantly on. It was the cultural center of gen X. We even got our news there from Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren.

Does the bundle include live TV channels?
Yes. ESPN’s full suite of linear networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, ESPN on ABC) and FOX’s leading channels (FOX Network, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, FOX Deportes, FOX News, FOX Business, FOX Weather, FOX Local Stations) are all included.

clt has to have CNBC
