DA on Wooden List

De’Angelo Alexander is on the 50 player Wooden Award Watch list for the upcoming season according to the Observer. What kind of performance do you think it would take for the team and DA for him to be the National Player of the Year?

Also, the women’s basketball team did not get anybody on the 1st-3rd Team A-10 pre-season. I guess we are a team of excellent depth but no stars. Does anybody know where we are picked as a team pre-season?

DA’s making the watch list was posted in a thread yesterday by Mike P. I believe. Great news though!

a transfer to a BCS school…

either that or shoot 70 percent from the field and average 40 a game…then…maybe he will get the nod

Wow…my post was mostly in jest…but thanks for the info…

Has the A-10 had more POY’s than any other conference this decade?

1997 Tim Duncan Wake Forest
1998 Antawn Jamison North Carolina
1999 Elton Brand Duke
2000 Kenyon Martin Cincinnati
2001 Shane Battier Duke
2002 Jason Williams Duke
2003 T. J. Ford Texas
2004 Jameer Nelson Saint Joseph’s
2005 Andrew Bogut Utah
2006 J. J. Redick Duke

Look at how those teams did, though, that year.

La Salle - 4 seed, round of 32. Pretty good regular season.
UMass - Final Four.
Xavier - 3 seed, round of 32. Pretty good regular season.
Saint Joe’s - 1 seed, Elite Eight. Undefeated in the regular season.

The only guy that wasn’t a larger forward was Nelson. And they had to go undefeated for him to get the nod.

Still…not to shabby
West didn’t win the Wooden.
That’s true. West did win two of the five major college basketball Player of the Year honors in 2003, though – AP and US Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Year while being runner-up to T.J. Ford for for the Wooden Award. He also received the Pete Newell Big Man award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
