Not too worried about hantavirus. Hantavirus has been around a long time, itâs what killed Gene Hackmanâs wife after she apparently was around rat urine/poop. It isnât easily spread between humans.
This variant is spreading between humans.
Think people are freaking out that it might be some new, more transmissable variant, but so far it sounds like that isnât the case.
I do get a little unnerved to hear similar statements to what was said at the start of covid, but we already had indications that was a different situation by then.
The Andes virus (ANDV) is a South American variant of hantavirus, primarily found in Argentina and Chile. It is the leading cause of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) in the region, a severe respiratory disease with a high case fatality rate of approximately 32% to 40%.
Crucially, the Andes variant is the only hantavirus known to spread person-to-person, typically requiring close and prolonged contact, such as between household members or intimate partners. This unique transmission capability has been the focus of international concern during recent outbreaks, such as the May 2026 outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius.
Yes, the Andean variant can spread, but even then itâs not all that common. These people were on top of each other on a cruise ship.

I know this is pandering to nostalgia, but I dont care. I loved pizza hut as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s. We would have like 3 or 4 families from our neighborhood all go at the same time - one adults table and one kids table. The jukebox, the pac man machine, the low lighting, the red plastic cups and all the delicious smells and tastes. Can still remember it pretty vividly. Kinda surprised at how great those memories are.
