Josh at Rivals said decision is next week, would be nice to have all 3 scholarships set and signed in the fall. Would allow us to put on full court press for 2013 class.

Darion Clark surprises in Oak Hill scrimmage October, 10, 2011 By Dave Telep We’re going to see a lot of Oak Hill this season and for good reason. Coach Steve Smith has five ESPNU 100 prospects on his roster and as talented as they are, it was a mid-major prospect who made the biggest impression on Saturday.

Clark beasts FUMA inside

Darion Clark (Conyers, Ga./Oak Hill) is about the ninth most-recognizable name on Oak Hill’s roster. However, he’s far from being the ninth most important player. If he’s able to replicate the ridiculous work he did on the glass, well, Smith will not only play him but will continue to start him. Clark, according to Oak Hill assistant Wilbur Allen, hauled in 20 rebounds in 28 minutes of action!

This kid’s motor was revving something fierce. His commitment to excellent on the glass was insane. He couldn’t be boxed out and there was no denying him from close range. Successful teams need players like this. Without the same hype as his teammates, Clark is proving his point. He’s carving out minutes and a starting role. Forget rankings, reputations, etc., on this team, he’s not getting beat out. It looks like he won’t allow it.

UNC-Asheville, Rhode Island and Florida Gulf Coast have offered the mid-major power forward. He’s undersized (yet determined) at 6-foot-6. Don’t call him a mid-major steal because that doesn’t do him justice. At the proper level (when he’s not up against 6-9 and 6-10 players) he’ll be in for a tremendous career. Southern Conference, A-10’s and some CAA’s should drive up the mountain and check him out.

Darion Clark (Conyers, Ga./Rockdale County)
2012, PF, 6-7, 235 pounds
Clark is a powerful, explosive and undersized power forward with great hands that help him dominate the boards and has a nose for the ball. His experience as a quarterback in football shows with his tremendous toughness and leadership ability; this kid is fearless and loves to attack the rim. He is getting a lot of high-major looks in basketball (mostly SEC, ACC, C-USA), but could very easily begin to generate recruiting momentum in football. Looking at Clark, you get an idea of what Auburn’s Cam Newton must have looked like on the basketball court, if he continues to progress at the quarterback position he could have some difficult decisions to make as to which sport to play at the collegiate level.

He used to play QB in high school football.

Rick Lewis says we lead for him:

6’6 Darion Clark was again rock solid and steady has he chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds as he continues to become a hot commodity in the recruiting circuit. He took an unofficial visit to Charlotte last weekend and is may be taking an official visit this coming weekend. At this point in time, Charlotte has jumped out and is the current leader.

according to his coach, will sign next week with either us or URI.

All signs appear that he’s going to come here. However, plenty of time for him to change his mind.

clt just hopes he signs before he learns of lebo’s coaching skillz.

If we get Clark to go along with other two, how would you rate this class compared to others before they step on campus? I like the current group of freshman more than other classes over last several years.

i think this class is very good in that it adds to what we brought in this season. we had a fairly highly ranked kid in lester, who will replace derrio, who gives us size, defense, scoring, length and athletisism. clayton will add rebounding and length and defense and help us transition for when kj, braswell and ivankovic graduate. clark would, it seems, give us a skill set that is similar to clayton. i wouldnt rank this class as high as the current one, possibly just due to sheer numbers but i think it is a great addition and will help set us up for some big time recruits for 2013 and 2014.

I talked with a guy recently who watches a lot of Oak Hill games in person. He said Clark would eat the A10 alive. Said we should ignore the “undersized” height. He’s 6’6 but plays like an angry bull elephant. Said he plays with the mentality that he cannot and will not be denied a rebound if it’s in his area.

Please, no “bull in a china shop” referencing like Anjuan had.

Hmm, I guess that means 2013 we need another center top priority, second priority PG

Sounds like a Dejuan Blair type player, maybe not to that level but a big body with a mottor that never stops.

This would be a good signing, but we would definitely need some legitimate size (a 5, this guy plays the 4 it seems), in the next class.

It appears with Clark and Clayton we will have solid rebounding pf’s when KJ leaves. But like others are saying a true C will definitely be the #1 priority in the 2013 class. Good thing is with this years class competed early the staff has plenty of time to evaluate and make a hard push for a few guys.

CDS with the truth. If we lock Clark up and all 3 sign early, we can start focusing a majority of our efforts on the 2013 class.
