CDS with the truth. If we lock Clark up and all 3 sign early, we can start focusing a majority of our efforts on the 2013 class.
Wonder if not locking up guys was a part of the Lutz problem? Seemed we were always recruiting guys for the same year in the spring. When other teams were locking up players for two seasons in advance we were often still trying to find guys to play that fall.
I love the job the coaches have done on the recruiting front so far on paper. I’m very excited to see the guys actually hit the court.
But if all three sign early, how will we sign any disgruntled transfers or last-minute jucos? I hear there are players putting up big-time numbers in the top juco league in the country in FL.
Seriously though, I could get used to wrapping up solid guys in the early signing period. We do need some depth at center. It’d be nice to have a guy to backup Thorne and then someone to redshirt for development in the next couple years.
Most kids do not go to a school to redshirt in basketball. You can afford to do that in football with so many on a roster, not really worth it in basketball when a kid can just go prep for a year.

2012, PF, 6-7, 235 pounds Clark is a powerful, explosive and undersized power forward with great hands that help him dominate the boards and has a nose for the ball. His experience as a quarterback in football shows with his tremendous toughness and leadership ability; this kid is fearless and loves to attack the rim. He is getting a lot of high-major looks in basketball (mostly SEC, ACC, C-USA), but could very easily begin to generate recruiting momentum in football. Looking at Clark, you get an idea of what Auburn’s Cam Newton must have looked like on the basketball court, if he continues to progress at the quarterback position he could have some difficult decisions to make as to which sport to play at the collegiate level.
He used to play QB in high school football.
Am I the only one wondering if his football abilities and our current status could be a contributing factor? Sounds like a good get and I’d be happy to see him in Niner Green (whatever that is next year)

He transfered to Oak Hill, which I think doesn’t have a football team, someone correct me if I’m wrong, so I think he is sticking with putting all his time into basketball, thought if he wanted to play TE for our football team i wouldn’t stop him.

Why? It’s happened before, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzolaz, Peppers… I guess no there is a injury concern, but there everytime you play.
i would much rather we take a guy like clark who can help us rather than reach for a lousy juco center or a high school stiff who is a project. there are plenty of good centers in next years class and im confident in the staffs ability to land one of them.

I’m pretty excited about him (likely) joining our program. Wish he was a bit taller, sure, but height isn’t everything.

thats not what im saying at all. im excited about him. i was saying that i would rather have him than a scrub big man just to fill a roster spot.
The first team preseason A10 center is listed at 6’9". Height is overrated, Major is going after guys who can play, you don’t have to have multiple “true centers” to win in the A10. I’ll gladly take any player making such a big impact at Oak Hill. Hopefully the visit goes well and we get a signature while he is here.
Can’t wait to land this guy! I love that Major is bringing in some BIG kids. You can do a lot of damage in CBB if you have a team of 6’6-6’8 athletic monsters on your team!

imho…major focuses on exactly what a kid does at the ‘splendid’ level (in addition, of course, to size, athleticism, length, etc). he’s much less interested, again imho, in whether he’s a 2, 3, 5 or 12! i thought his remarks the other night at the wild wing were very interesting when he talked about wanting his players to enter a game knowing exactly what their role is…the 3 things they are to focus on. in this system, two “PFs” might have very different roles. …And to be on topic, DC looks great and having him play with our new guys would be awesome. Hope we land him.

I was excited about the 2007 class. It’d be dishonest to let how they turned out how influenced how you originally felt about them. Might be what he’s getting at.
