Dave Jageler

Houston Astros
Team conducts interviews
The Pawtucket Times reports Pawtucket play-by-play man Dave Jageler is one of the six finalists for the Houston Astros’ No. 2 radio job.

The Houston Chronicle reports Astros broadcasting director Jamie Hildreth and crew have interviewed this week eight candidates, including incumbent analyst Alan Ashby and former Cardinals voice Wayne Hagin. “We had good interviews, but there’s nothing to report yet on a decision,” Hildreth said.

The selected applicant would primarily work road games, in place of Milo Hamilton, who will cut back his schedule in an attempt to set a new longevity record. Hamilton has been the voice of the Astros since 1985.

Other known candidates include other announcers who call minor league games besides Jageler and at least one Major League pre and post-game show host. The Chronicle reported former Astros announcer and current Devil Rays voice Dewayne Staats, Mike Capps at Round Rock and Matt Hicks at Corpus Christi would likely interview.

sorry but…who is he?

He was the voice of the 49ers for many years, before he took a job with an NBA club (Celtics?).

One of the greatest radio play by play guys the Niner have ever had. Great one liner.

I wish dunkmaster still had some of Dave’s audio clips posted. He could get so excited at times.

Dave was my favorite 49er announcer. Next would be John Kilgo who did our games during the glory years of Cedric Maxwell and Lew Massey.

Jim Forrest was also stellar during the 80’s and 90’s.

Thanks for the highlight, CharlotteAlum!

Colorado49er, John Kilgo’s straight-shooting announcing was wonderful. His year with Jay Thomas doing the color was classic humor. It would be great for him to return as a guest announcer one night.

Dave was a great homer and funny to listen to but I liked Jim better.

Jags career never really took off like everyone expected it to when he left here. He is still basically doing the same thing he was when he left.

Thanks Alum!!! Man I miss that voice…

CowBell - you could actually follow the game with Jags calling it, in fact it could sometimes be hard keeping up with him. A lot of times when the niners were on tv I’d mute the tv and watch it while listening to Jags. He never missed a beat and was the biggest homer ever.

Did you ever see the game @ Syracuse? He did the play-by-play on tv for that game. They guy graduated from 'Cuse but you couldn’t tell he gave a rat’s a## about 'Cuse from listening to the game. I’ve got a copy of it if you want it.

Oh yea, anybody remember the UAB game a couple years back where Jags and Cornbread were doing commentary for the game? Cornbread even called Jags a homer!! :lmao:

it’d be great to hear some other clips from Jag’s he was the man. Post them
