David Chadwick - 2009

You really think that Eddie, Curtis and Kelvin would have only played 30 seconds a game on a UNC-CH or Duke roster? You guys are really selling our program short. If you guys feel comfortable with the recruiting tactic of “OK, we’ll take your scrubs.” then we just disagree.

I'd take Quinton Thomas on our team this year.

now were just getting dellusional. What next, Jackie Manuel? Quinton Thomas is horrible.

curtis and eddie both came in as top 100 guys. i dont think we need unc last 30 second guys on our team. despite our struggles thats not the type of players that we have and i dont see this guy as the answer.

I believe that we have to go after good players but be realistic, and that is how bobby has done it and he usually finds guys who weren’t given enough credit by scouts. curtis was a 3-star undersized pf coming out of hs, but over his career at charlotte he worked on his game and was considered on of the top 10 pf in the nation his junior and senior years and part of his sophomore year. Eddie was a late bloomer as far as i understand and bobby got to him early. his freshmen and sophomore year he was a dynamo and a defensive stopper but not too great on offense, he worked hard and as you know as a senior he got much deserved cusa poy over that joke garcia. kelvin went from space filler to solid post player, especially picking up the slack in '98 when johnson had left. All i’m saying is i prefer the kids who will work hard to improve instead of coasting on pure talent, for instance joakim noah was a highly regarded guy and seemed to be turning into a monster last year, yet this year it looks like he has taken a step back, maybe too much talent on the team. however all the niner guys i mentioned got better every year, significantly.

TRUTH! Quentin Thomas is TERRIBLE

I agree with you about getting guys who get better. That’s kind of obvious I think. My point is do you really want a guy who would only see 30 seconds of playing time in blow out games for UNC-CH or Duke? And you didn’t answer as to whether you thought Eddie and Curtis would have only seen 30 seconds of playing time. Maybe the 30 seconds was a bit exaggerated. If you meant a player would have more opportunity here then I completely agree.

And for what it’s worth, I’m not against recruiting Chadwick. I am against wanting somebody who you felt would only get scrub time at other schools. I don’t know if Chadwick falls into that category or not. I don’t think he does but I’ll trust the coaches decision either way.

This story about Chadwick appeared in Sunday’s Big O…

A rising junior at Charlotte Latin, David Jr. has demonstrated enough talent that a number of ACC schools are showing interest. Charlotte basketball coach Bobby Lutz -- according to the Chadwicks -- unofficially offered him his first scholarship.

Take home message:

If it comes to walking on at North Carolina vs. taking a scholarship offer elsewhere, David Jr. said he would take the scholarship.
Take home message:

i don’t know how much this means. but i saw roy williams pulling out of Charlotte Latin yesturday on the way to the game.

And who scouted him first? YOUR VERY OWN NINERCENTRAL… Bobby needs to go ahead and cut me a check right now.

haha how did you scout him first? pretty sure bobby was looking at him while he was scouting dewhurst too.

I played basketball with the boy when he was like 12… I scouted him first.

was he clumsy and uncoordinated then too? or was that just his freshman year?

Update in the Observer from Langston Wertz:

Latin’s Chadwick tested again
Chadwick, who has scholarship offers from Charlotte and James Madison, also was at Latin three times a day, for two 90-minute skills sessions plus scrimmage time.

Thicker and stronger, Chadwick – whose father, also named David, played for Dean Smith at North Carolina from 1968 through '71 – had morphed into a totally different player when the 2007-08 season began in November. He’d added four inches to his vertical leap. His game had new passion.

He was demanding the ball, scoring with a variety of quick post moves, 3-point shots and jump hooks. He was averaging 17 points and eight rebounds.

Then, in the Bojangles’ Shootout Dec. 29, Chadwick went up for a shot and came down on an East Mecklenburg player’s foot. Saturday night, after the Christ School game, Chadwick said his ankle was still discolored and swollen.

Thanks for bumping Lefty. I was just about to look him up for any updates. His dad throws college athletics illustrations into the sermon every once in a while.

I can’t see this kid playing at JMU over charlotte, he might be the star of the team at JMU but you would not win anything of signifigance, have they ever been to the ncaas? Come on weve got to make a hometown push, however with all of his father’s connections I believe he may go to UNC, reminds me of Matt Doherty, do anything type guy.

I believe he is going to be out 2-3 weeks with the above mentioned injury.

His dad was at the game last night. Young David was not there that I saw.

Hmm…since he is a fourth year junior at Latin would he come out early?
We need a scorer in the WORST way next year. The minutes are there for anyone that can score.
If I was a player and wanted to play right away especially at the two and down low then Charlotte would be the place.
Chadwick would fit perfectly into our system since he can play down low and on the perimeter.

Plus Lutz is a standup guy, so I am sure that impresses his dad since he is a pastor. Also, we have had a history of having great Christian guys including Lee, Ian, Jobey etc.

Yeah…a real standup guy!
