Should be a good game tonight – especially if the Niners win!!!
BTW, forward Adam Ruud was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week:
Men’s Soccer’s Adam Ruud Named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
Although the women’s ended with a 2-1 loss to Marquette in the C-USA tourney, they have also picked up several accolades this week.
Two Women’s Soccer Players Named Academic All-District
Two former women’s soccer players named to C-USA’s All-Decade team
Women’s Soccer Players Lindsey Beam and Jill Leeder Earn All-Conference USA Honors
GO FUTBOL NINERS!!!
Davidson will begin their domination of the 69ers, with an overtime win in the boring game of soccer…now on to B-ball where you will take your lumps on 12/8.
I just read a nice story on Ian Dennis in the South Charlotte paper, former 49ers soccer player and current Coach at Charlotte County Day. He came in with Kohlenstein in 89. He has been at Country Day for 10 years and has won over 200 games with the men’s and women’s teams. Another Niner from that generation, John Cullen, coaches the Catawba women. And I believe Aidan Heany is still down at UNCW.
Run, do you know of that paper? Not sure if they have an online version.
Lefty, they do have a website, but it doesn’t contain any of actual hardcopy content. I occasionally pick up a copy of South Charlotte Weekly at the Harris Teeter. Look foward to reading the piece about Ian.
Aidan is still the coach at UNCW and it looks like he recruits the Charlotte-area pretty heavily with players from Charlotte, Matthews, China Grove, Concord, and Salisbury.
BTW, one of Frank’s assistants at UNCC, Sean Bubb, is the executive director of the Charlotte Soccer Club – the group that holds me “hostage” on many a weekend. Hopefully it will all payoff with my son getting a college futbol scholarship!
GO NINERS!
Bad news. 4-2 Davidson. Adam Ruud, our best offensive player, was redcarded in the 24th minute for a “foul in the box”. Sounds crazy to me. That type of ejection would usually come from a defender stopping a goal scoring opportunity with a takedown. Was anyone there? Davidson is a good team but come on?!?!
You hate it when I’m right don’t you…

[/b]Lefty, I went to the game Friday night. I didn't see whatever it was the referee saw to issue the red card against Ruud, so I can't offer any insight there. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out offsides even after watching soccer all these many years and even coaching my son and my youngest daugther!
Seriously, though, the Niners had a number of chances to pull this one out and just didn’t get it done. With Ruud out of the opening round of the C-USA tourney due to the red card, could be the end of what has been a decent season for Charlotte futbol. C’est la vie…
GO NINERS!
Damn refs. B) You’re right…it’s going to be tough without Ruud. Cinci Thursday in the first round.

What is a red card?

Usually you get a yellow (warning) first. Have to make a pretty punk— play to get a red. It also means you are ejected from the next game too.
