Dayton is just another game on the schedule. Sure, there’s a little bit of hostility between us and Richmond… but is it mutual? They don’t even care enough about their team to fill their arena, let alone build a rivalry.
Quit trying to make something out of nothing.
Uh, that’s exactly what you’re doing right now. Making something out of nothing. Davidson fans don’t bother to fill their arena either. Maybe the fan support will last a couple of years past curry, but I doubt it.

I agree with Lew 100% on this. A rivalry isn’t so much about the records or rankings as it is about how much the fans get into it.
Did you see the crowd at the Dayton game here last year? Granted we were bad, but they were like 22 and 2 or something and we still could barely draw flies.
Now take Davidson and put them in that same spot, and you have a great crowd.
That’s why I still consider Charlotte-Davidson a rivalry. We pack each others houses each time we play, regardless of record.

Packed house? I’ve been to some Charlotte/Davidson games that were less than full and less than fun. I agree it’s a rivalry, but I’d rather develop a rivalry with a team that isn’t bad.

unintentional fallacy removed
When we went to their house a few years ago, and I got back to my car to see one of my car flags cut from its pole and the other one snapped in half…
…the hatred was created that will never. ever. ever go away. **** them, **** them again, and **** them a third time.
PB is too good to admit that Davidson is a rivalry.

And maybe we will. But until then, this is all we’ve got. We can’t just make something happen, no matter how much we want to.
Richmond will never be the same as Davidson. It just won’t. No matter how bad, or how good they are, they will be at our house and we will be at theirs, especially after this scheduling fiasco.
When’s the last time a large contingent of Richmand students and alums showed up at Halton? Or visa versa for that matter?

You say that like our other “rival” brought a huge crowd. I would rather maintain a rivalry with ECU and talk **** to them. They did bring fans. Yeah, I know Davidson is a rival and has been for a long time. I’m not saying we shouldn’t maintain a series with them. But why make them out to be a bigger game than they are. We’re going to beat them and if we don’t, we know we have an awful team.

If that was the last trip we took to Davidson, I bet it was a Niner fan who vandalized your car flags.
I probably would’ve felt like doing that after the 30 pt. drubbing we received.
One of the main reasons I feel like this is just a small time rivalry (something we shouldn’t make a big deal out of) is that with a real rivalry you can throw out the record books. But in ours, you can’t. If we lose to Davidson, it probably means we’re gonna have a rough year.
Has there ever been a year when we were really good and Davidson beat us?
Why not make shirts for a team that isn’t terrible?
Seriously, whether it’s a rivalry by how much the fans get into it or not, they’re not worth celebrating the creation of a shirt over.

And hell, even when Davidson was REALLY GOOD, we still beat them with a mildly good team.
Since rivalries are generally fan manufactured anyway, you could say we have a budding rivalry with Dayton because we beat them. Or, on the flipside, with Richmond cause they beat us. Either one is better than Davidson.
I have your back on this. My hatred for Dayton is growing faster than for anyone else.

I would be so proud to be the afterthought rivalry!
I still like, if only for this year, “26-10 is not a rivalry.”
Or maybe, “26-10” on the front and “It’s only a rivalry when it’s CLOSE” on the back.
Definitely.
You could just make the shirt say it’s only a rivalry when it’s close. Hornet’s Nest Trophy on the front. Or norm with the brain on a stick.
The shirt should say, “It’s only a rivalry if it warrants making a t-shirt”
“Charlotte’s basketball program is far superior to Davidson’s as proven by the 26-10 head-to-head record at the time this shirt was printed.”
That sounds pretty catchy to me.
Hahahaha. Win. Also win: “Davidson sucks.” I would also consider referencing their success in Halton Arena.
Don’t let the haters get you down, Lew. Any time you try to do something like this (that is, something interesting), people will tell you why it’s a terrible idea and you shouldn’t do it. It’s how it works for someone trying to lead 104: all criticism and little help. That doesn’t mean that you should go through with all of your ideas always, but I would put more emphasis on your fellow current 104ers than what anyone outside of this year’s student population thinks (myself included) because they’re the ones who will be actually implementing it.
I you’re right to try to emphasize the rivalry with Davidson; like it or not, we have a trophy and tradition with Davidson and that’s really all we have going for us right now in terms of rivalries with a long (if one-sided) history. I agree that rivalries are mostly fan-manufactured, but that’s the way it should be and if making fun off Davidson is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.
