73-68 in SoCon Tourny…
The Wildcats are 20-8 and N I T bound.
UNC Greensboro (18-11) will play the winner of the Chattanooga (18-10)-Applachian State (18-11) game Saturday on ESPN2 at 8:00pm.
like many Charlotte fans, I don’t like it when my school is referred to as UNC-G…its either UNC Greensboro or UNCG…
just wanted to let you guys know. hopefully we’ll get to the dance…but with an RPI around 160, we’ll probably be a 16 seed. hope you guys are pulling for your little brothers to the North!
Woo hoo, go Spartans!
remember Splinter, you’re not the only UNCG student on these boards
just hope that ASU wins…since they had no bye, the championship would be their 4th game in 4 days…that’s tough. PLUS, the tournament is on UTC’s home floor!
Congrats Splinter! I was able to watch the first half and the Spartans were on fire. Also, I agree hypens are bush league.
I am not a big Davidson fan but I am surprised they lost. Their coach has done a great job there. I get the feeling he will get a bigger job next year possibly.
Mckillop will finish his Career at Davidson
Any reason why you believe that? Age?
i believe mckillop will finish his career at davidson also…he’s had tremendous success over the past 16 years and hasn’t left yet…so i believe he’ll stay since he’s getting older and his high school son may play for him in a few years. kinda like kress at Charleston, i think these guys are happy being the big fish in a small pond.
He has done a great job at Davidson, but I’m not sure he could be successful at a larger school.
it has to be fustrating to go undefeated, lose one game in the tournament and be done.
Is there really no way they get an at-large bid? I still remember that Mizzou shallacking. Plus, who would take their spot in the tournament, GA Tech, NC State, Oklahoma? The big schools are bad this year. Why not give Davidson a second chance?
Agree that he’ll retire at Davidson. Classy guy and a great coach that gets the most out of his players, despite not being able to tap into the quality recruiting pools.
Davidson will not get an at-large…just won’t happen. The Mizzou win was about the best they have and that was the first game of the year. It also happens to be their ONLY win against a top 100 RPI team (barely, at #98) They had three wins against non-Div. 1 opponents to boot. Their RPI is just okay and no offense to them, but running the table in the Southern Coference is not going to blow away the committee. It’s extremely difficult to go undfeated in any conference but beating up on Elon, The Citadel, Furman, Western Carolina and Wofford (all 200+ RPI) just won’t make a strong case.
And if State beats Wake this weekend, I’m willing to bet that they get in the Tournament. ACC may be a bit overrated (top heavy) but a mediocre team in that conference is still going to get more consideration than a team like Davidson. Doesn’t make it right but that’s just the way the ball bounces. I don’t buy into the notion that the committee doesn’t weigh the history/power of certain conferences regardless of what they try to tell you.

[/b]History has shown that the Southern Conference will never get a second team in the NCAA's regardless of their record. That is the way it has been for as long as I can remember and I assume it will continue.
georgia tech or oklahoma would kill davidson. NC State, that is a little harder to decide.
this is why i hate conference tournaments. they screw a team like davidson that has put together a great season. conference tournaments only do one thing and thats help teams in the ACC and big east. “well state (sucks) but they have beat the va techs and the miamis and va’s of the confernce, if they can win a game in the tourney, they are in.” it just helps the ACC have more cause to get 9 teams in.
The Southern Conference is ranked 24th by Ken Pomeroy. That alone guarantees a one bid league. It’s UNC Greensboro vs. Chattanooga in Chattanooga for the championship (8:00pm, ESPN2). The same holds true with Winthrop later today. Should they lose (not likely) to Charleston Southern today (12:00pm, ESPN2) they’ll be sitting at home too. The Big South Conference is ranked 28th of 31 leagues.

ID, I disagree that state may be a different story against davidson. The way the pack are playing, they can play with a lot of good teams. And as for them beating the miami’s, vt’s, and uva’s…tell that to gt and maryland. I do agree that they are not that good, but state has gone as much as gt. I wish people would get off the “they made the national championship” and the “bj elder is back” things. They still haven’t done much since he is back. Anyways it don’t matter since the niners got their region on lockdown.

McKillop wins with players who can play a “smart game” and lots of fundamentally sound foreign talent who make up for being slow and undersized.
