2-3 zone on a 3 point bombing team? they had 7 or 8 in the first half. yet we never left it. I didnt expect to win, we got beat by an awesome team, but come on, that was pathetic.
To be truthful the zone was better than the man. We got beat when we manned up and our guards dropped, they kicked out and reposted deeper. Our guards dropped, theirs moved, post kick out, help rotates and the extra pass is made. Open 3 pointers. Too easy. Indiana was textbook offense tonight. Our guards were lost in the zones, especially the 1-3-1. This was dissapointing. Not nearly as bad as the offense, but our defense was bad.
Exactly, the zone actually worked better. Our guys got lost on picks in man. We were trying to “fly at their shooters” according to Lutz. Not good enough against a talented team like IU. But of course, IU had great spacing with options everywhere.

They hit 10-14 in the first half.
We make every team a good 3 pt shooting team be cause we don’t guard the perimeter and haven’t in 3 years. The 3 pt shot in college is not a difficult shot when guys are wide open and squared up.

We have had truly pathetic perimeter defense for a VERY long time. Ask Coclasure at Valpo or Deiner at DePaul. Even on shooters who can’t get their own shots, we’re not very good.
Also, we don’t just run at guys late…Like PI said, we leave them WIDE THE HELL open, nobody within miles. Even bad shooters (Mitch, for instance) can hit a 3 once in a while when they have all day.

Bad shooters? As of right now Mitch has the highest three point field goal percentage on out team. He may not be our best shooter but he usually only shoots when he has a good look. We don’t have bad shooters we just take bad shots.

We were not in a zone when they were hitting most of those 3s in the first half, but in some ways that’s even more discouraging.
