DeMario Mayfield 6-4 SG UGA transfer

I played AA ball in HS, and we were a top 12 team in AA and beat a top 12 AAA team on their court by about 10, and honestly it was never really that close. They paid us back by beating us by 6 on our senior but we played that night with largely second and third string guys who were seniors. As run made mention, classification doesn’t always mean someone or some team is better, just that the probability is higher b/c of the large pool to choose from. I’m sure you understand that, but it’s not as out of the norm as you make it seem.

I don’t know anything about Mayfield but can’t we wait to crown him or ride him until after we see something on the court? I know that is part of the fun of NNN but I’m optimistic about everybody our coaches (Lutz or Major) recruit, sign, or whatever.

If i’m not mistaken, Reggie Bullock has played AA ball in NC the past 2 years. JT Terrell played AAA ball up until his senior year in HS.

The UPS man told me that the word in Athens is that if Mayfield had started UGA would have been a top 25 team.
Run its a big difference but thx for the lecture on A classification  i never new that info lol. Sure there is a Favors on occasion, but most legit talent in all sports comes from the big high schools and the AAA schools cant compete with 4A and 5A teams
Metro, I know you knew about classification (thus the reason for the “generic” quote), but that doesn’t mean everyone does. Just wanted to make sure that those not-in-the-know didn’t equate high school classification with NCAA divisions or MLB minor leagues. Yes, the higher classifications have shear numbers on their side, but that doesn’t mean they have a corner on the talent market.

That’s what I’m not getting about a lot of this. I don’t think anybody has crowned him. But there’s definitely been some bashing. I believe most people are saying he had impressive HS credentials, that hopefully a new team will be good for him and that hopefully the coaches can see potential that it’s worth offering him a scholarship.
I think it was right around when the personal attacks came…
What personal attacks? I thought he went running when everything he said was proven to be untrue (primarily by links to other papers)… but I do not recall any personal attacks. We discussed this in the downtown Picasso’s. When I asked for an example, you could not think of one.

Ok… back on topic before I get my hand slapped by Kevin Bo Jangles.

So seriously though, looking past all the bs, why hasn’t the observer posted this signing or verbal (whatever it may be) intent of Mayfield yet? Has he really decided to come here? I mean regardless of his caliber, we need SOMEONE in the 2010 recruiting class… and why is Charlotte always so secretive with all of their recruits? Do we really get turned down that much that we don’t want the public to know?

We just have few insiders.

Still no article on charlotteobserver.com??

still no release from the AD either. Might be waiting for grades to clear.

Just posted on the Charlotte website that Mayfield indeed has transfered

link to article → said link

Thanks Moss. I was just trying to look for it myself.

They actually decided to write something about us recruiting.

When I go directly to the Observer’s website, the only mention I see is in Jim’s blog… but it looks like the same article, just with a different author.

Even in Jim’s blog though, David Scott is listed as the author.

Booker was Gatorade player of the year in Mississippi. Great body timid mentality.

I personally attacked Persinger.

First for his journalistic lack of talent and then for his ugly mug.
