According to New England Recruting Report, we are targeting Dennis Clifford, a 6-10 (or 6-11) C at Milton Academy in Massachusetts.
Sounds like a good prospect. At least it appears that his skills are moving in the right direction. Major would be a great coach to help him develop more. But I’m guessing by what’s not there that he’s not real “athletic”?
Wait a second, are you allowed to recruit centers? I have been under the impression that we aren’t allowed to for some reason. It may have to do with Bonnie Cone’s grandson’s roommate.
It actually has to do with Martin Iti. We are still fearful of receiving another #1 rated center.
pretty sure Phil Jones is a center. We recruited Hassan Whiteside too.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good argument.
Also, despite what all the recruiting sites listed him at, Braswell was always a center too.
If Charlotte is recruiting a player, he can’t be very good, can he?
I thought all the good players went to BCS schools.
Seriously now, I don’t understand how anyone can accurately judge players recruited by this coaching staff. Until these folks, Major and his staff that is, have some recruits play on the court at Halton, its all bullshit…I mean, random speculation.
Lutz was highly predictable in his recruiting targets. Major? I think he needs a class to actually show up on campus and play ball 1st.
Is Jeremy Mayfield a player? who the heck knows? Is this guy a player or is he just Clifford the Big Red Dog? Let me see him play D1 basketball, then I will judge
Jeremy Mayfield, is he giving up Nascar for college hoops?

Don’t know if he can hoop or not but I’m pretty sure he is an ambiturner. If we are recruiting race car drivers why not see if Danica Patrick or one of the Force girls will come on board as cheerleaders. If it gets butts in seats I’m all for it.
Edit: Damn you moss.
my bad. I meant DeMario Mayfield.
Obviously unathletic but highly intelligent.
If you need a bead on some good meth, Jeremy is your guy.
Commits to BC.
Eagles reaching for 2011 prospect? 7:19AM ET Boston College Eagles Top Email New BC head coach Steve Donahue has made his first major recruiting move, and it has nothing to do with making the Eagles better right away.
With an eye to the future, Donahue garnered an early commitment from Dennis Clifford, a 6-foot-10 center from Bridgewater, MA, who will join the program as the first recruit of BC’s class of 2011.
Clifford has the size an ACC school craves, but his developing game may not be up to par just yet. Boston College is a major step up from Clifford’s other schools of interest - solid mid-majors like Vermont, Bradley, Brigham Young and UMass. Some might say that Donahue reached too far for a raw prospect.
Not for nothing, but the kid is excited to be there, so his coachability should be top-notch.
“Hopefully I can be an impact player when I get in,” Clifford told the Boston Globe. “He didn’t promise me anything. He said I’ll get in what I earn. So I’m gonna work on getting stronger and whatever. Really, I’ll do whatever he wants.”
It’s tough to really fault Donahue for grabbing the big fella. The coach has a big rebuilding job ahead of him, and, as the saying goes, you can’t teach size. The biggest danger is that Clifford could develop during his senior year and rescind his verbal commitment if a contender comes calling. We’ll keep an eye on him for you.
Scouts, Inc. Clifford is a project.
"Clifford continues to make steady progress and has worked himself into a solid mid-major prospect. He has gotten stronger and more physical, adding noticeable muscle mass to his upper body and doing a nice job of ducking-in to establish deep low post position on several possessions. He now has a dependable go-to move on the low block with a jump hook over his right shoulder along with solid counter moves and his typical shooting range to 18 feet. While Clifford has gotten stronger, balance continues to be an issue. He also must become a much better rebounder as he shows no effort to pursue the ball outside of his area."
At least The Boston Globe knows its role in perpetuating the ACC is the best basketball conference in the entire universe!
