I am so glad this game is at Halton. I think we would be in trouble at their place. I am in the process of getting tix, b/c this is too big of a game to miss!

Few things stick out to me.

First Depaul is 4-4 on the Road. That is a good omen.

Second they only give up 62 ppg, we average almost 79 ppg. That’s a 17 point differential, this means the Niners must dictate tempo. Having a large raucous crowd helps.

Third Depaul is not an exceptional free throw shooting team, hopefully that will not change at Halton.

Fourth they have about a 1:1 Assist to Turnover ratio. This is most likely because Quemont Greer can do so many things one on one. However with our individual defenders I like our chances.

Finally Depaul gives up about 6 steals a game to their opponent. Eddie Basden may have a busy night.

If we bring the house, I like the Niners chances.

Don’t let their drubbing of Cincy scare you.

I chalk this up to some combination of the good day/bad day phenomemon or if you buy Huggy’s whining, a tired Cincy.

Depaul has lost to Northern Illinois, Bradley and Northwestern in addition ot Cincy and Memphis.

They are a good team but we can smoke these turkeys.

DePaul is a really good team. Their drubbing of Cincy at DePaul was not a huge surprise to me. Since Mejia came back from his leave of absence, DePaul has lost only two games: @ Cincy and @ Memphis. Mejia only played 22 minutes at Cincy and had a horrible game, in just his 2nd game back from his leave. He is going to give Mitchell fits because of his height. We better not come out flat in this game or we could be down 15 before we wake up. Everybody knows how good Greer is and how Diener can shoot, but Mejia is a great player not many know about. Check out his game log over his last 8 games:

Why not.

Quemont Greer - DePaul’s best player. Can shoot the three or take his defender to the hoop. Not as good inside as Withers, but handles the ball better and is quicker. Could get Withers in foul trouble with his quickness.

Drake Diener - Think of a taller Brendan Plavich with less range. He can light it up from 3 and rarely misses when he’s open. Deadly free throw shooter as well. Handles the ball surprisingly well for a 2-guard of his size.

LaVar Seals - The 4th option in DePaul’s lineup. He’s not going to hurt you unless you overplay the main three options. Good, aggressive defender.

Marlon Brumfield - designated rebounder and space occupier. If this guy scores more than 8 points you’ve had a terrible game. Iti should have a field day so long as he doesn’t get into foul trouble.

Their bench is shallow. Jamal Nichols is the only non-starter averaging more than 4 points.

And we've lost to Rutgers (RPI #170) and East Carolina (RPI #197), as well as Alabama and Cincy. Not sure what your point is.

My point is that they are no better than we are despite handily beating Cincy. They have some bad losses and we have ours. We know that if we had made a few more free throws, that our record would be different.

That Brumfed (sp?) guy is huge, I foresee Matin getting pushed around a bit. We need a great defensive performance from Mitchell, Basden, and Withers in this one.

Some info for people wanting to wager your SOs or wives for this contest…

Hey, don’t sleep on that Diener kid, he can flat out shoot. I think the key to this game is the bench play. They don’t really have one. Lee, E.J., and Nance have to have a big night.

And for the love of God will the fans PLEASE show up!!!

Looks like I’m bringing 4 to the game! One’s a Heel fan, one’s a dooky, ones FSU, and the other only has one lung, but it’ll help. With these 2 for 1 coupons on charlotte49ers.com its foreseeable for all of us to recruit fringe people. We need to sell this moommajomma out. I know I’m preaching to the choir, but this is a HUGE game.

Any thoughts on the possibillity of DePaul being ranked.

Yeah, this should be a decently close game. We do need the crowd to get out because we know how much the players/coaches talk about feeding from the crowd. Let’s do this one Niners!
