Depth Chart- Defense

Here is what we have on the defensive side of the ball going into August 1st. We will be running a 3-4 defense with only 3 lineman and 4 LBs.

Martay Mattox should be one of the starters at CB, but I am really not sure about the depth chart in the defensive back field. Just a guess from the spring game. We have several in the 2013 class also.

Micah Bryan was at talked about as being a starter at MLB but he was listed at SS in the Spring Game.

– And some roster attrition: Wide receiver Jamel Ross is out for the season with a knee injury. Running back Chris Duffy won’t be with the 49ers this season, heading to junior college instead. Also, defensive back Nolan Corpening and defensive end Jamar Winston will not be enrolled in school this fall. Linebacker Rick LeGrant is academically ineligible.

is duffy going juco for grades? do we still think we will enlist him. i would have liked to keep winston, he could have been a two sport athlete here.

that sucks. he could have helped in the post.

I thought Cooper was a junior.

What about the juco ILB Caleb Clayton-Molby?

I think I read they want to try him out at H-back but he could still play linebacker.

Some good stuff depth chart related on the Rivals site.

DBs- http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1528075

LBs- http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1529512

Reading David Scotts article today, there is no way Hogan doesn’t start at one of the linebacker positions right?

He should. We are looking to add age to the line-up and he has the experience to lead the LBs.

Best player plays. If he’s the best, then so be it.

Noticed in David Scott’s Friday article that Mark Hogan made the FCS independence conference 2nd team at LB. Looks like he has lot’s of experience. Nice to see at such an important position.

He might not be the most talented but his experience should help him be a better player from the beginning. He may nit start all season, but he will be in on plenty of snaps.

Good stuff on Rivals about the position battles.

I wonder if Hogan wants to play baseball too?

I was wondering the same thing, but I am not sure of his eligibility. He is going to grad school and has 1 year of football left. I would assume that would be the case for baseball as well. He was listed as a Jr for football but was a Senior on the baseball team.

That is strange. He only played 2 years of baseball.

Winston told me today that he will be enrolling in January and will join the football program.

Duffy has tweeted that “he can wait to get to UNCC and put on for his city” (or something very similar)

that is two very big additions. i wonder if major can convince winston to walk on for basketball also. he had an offer from odu for hoops and is 6’8" so it would seem like a good fit. great news about duffy.
