For us to make any move towards the top of any conference we have got to improve our shooting. I have found missing good shots more frustrating than just about anything I have dealt with as a niner fan. A shitty offense produces crappy shots, it pissed me off but it was what it was and enable us to beat teams more talented than us on some nights (and lose to less talented teams regularly). A good offense that is giving us exactly what we want and then we dont capitalize is driving me crazy.
I get what youâre saying, even with the bit of an exaggeration. But a bad shooting night is a bad shooting night, regardless of the offensive scheme.

Agreed - but missing bad shots doesnât piss me off quite like missing wide open ones. Bad shots were the result of bad decisions, bad players, poor spacing, etc. Missing wide open shots are just not being able to knock them down.

We will be hard pressed to find a proven D1 scorer next year to replace Briscoe but who cares winning isnât important with this coaching staff REBUILDING is.
And for those who say Briscoe was not that good then your really proving my point of how bad the talent level and coaching on this team is.
HE WAS OUR STARTING GUARD ::)
Perhaps he chose to transfer, because next season he wasnât going to be our starting SG.
I wish him the best, he played hard given the circumstances.
I dont think Major would have been dumb enough not to start Briscoe next season. He tried that experiment this year and failed. As I said as bad as Briscoe played this year he was still one of our 5 best players or Major would not have started him. Next year he would have been 1 of only 3 returning scorers who has ever avg double figures on the D1 level.
IMO Briscoe left to play with a winner pure and simple.Lets face it were light years away from being competitive in the A-10. Briscoe never signed up to play in Majorâs slow down non offensive system. Having to play in a system thats offensively offensive coupled with Majorâs inexperience and chronic losing proved to be unacceptable for Briscoe. To his credit he stayed loyal to Charlotte and tried to make it work and gave this program a model student athlete on and off the court. I thought he would leave with Bobby. In hindsight I bet he wished he did.

We have become the Fordham of the south.
Didnât Briscoeâs mom say that the coaching staff told Deuce we couldnât make him happy and he should find somewhere else to play?
Left to play with a winner? Letâs see where he goes, from my understanding itâll have to be D2. When we got out to run, no one could finish on the break, Briscoe included. But I guess Major shouldnât have adjusted temp to keep the team in games. Itâs not like we were trying to play in the 50s.
Iâm not hoping he fails, I think he already failed. His first two years he has failed. IMO, heâs so far away from being a decent coach itâs time to move on⌠now.
Hereâs what I donât get. One of the most successful coaches in college basketball todayâThad Mattaâhired Alan Major not once, but twice. He had him on his staff for nine years, and Matta can pretty much pick any assistants that he wants. Matta has also spun off some pretty good head coaches from his staffs, and he recommended Alan Major for this job. So now I am in the awkward position of having to chooseâdo I trust in Thad Matta and give Coach Major a chance to gut and rebuild the Niners, or do I listen to boo-birds like Ninersfan99 because he is aces on his Xbox basketball game?
In that case, I guess every assistant for any of the top BCS schools should be promoted to head coach, and thatâs all thatâs needed for justification.
So by your logic no assts would ever get a job? Gonna be a lot of retreads in the coaching ranksâŚ
Just being an assistant at a BCS school is not a valid reason for being promoted to a HC.
Basically itâs an appeal to a false authority. Thad Matta has no experience hiring head coaches.
Ah, but he does have experience producing them.
Just playing a tempo to stay in games is why we lost 12 out of the last 15 games.
Being a winner D2 is alot better deal than being a LOSER D1.
I donât think weâre light years away from winning. I think weâll take a step forward next year. Personally, Iâd want to compete at the highest level possible. I do wish Deuce the best wherever he goes, but donât see it as a devastating blow to our program. Heâs never shot well or played one a winning team in college. Maybe our next SG can help push us forward to winning again.
âDidnât Briscoeâs mom say that the coaching staff told Deuce we couldnât make him happy and he should find somewhere else to play?â
Exactly, If Major focus is rebuilding not winning I would think that would not make a SENIOR very happy.
yes, we are rebuilding, but Deuce hasnât produced enough for him to be given 30mpg. Iâd say only Braz, Mayfield and Henry (before the injury), warranted PT to be given to them.

Briscoe shot 39% his fresh and soph year Goldwire shot 39% his senior year not good but certainly not bad.
Briscoe never won but he has been very successful on the D1 level.
Briscoe canât control winning or losing players getting kicked off the team, failing off ect.
Competing is one thing playing for Charlotte and getting the shit kicked out of you is another. Who wants to keep getting their head bashed in just to play D1.
Plus we donât know what the particulars are surrounding his transfer.
Briscoe may end up playing D1 somewhere after all in a situation that is much closer to the dance than we are.
Iâll believe the D1 transfer when I see it. I bet Goldwire wishes he had a post presence like Braswell that mandated double teams while he was here.
Losing is one thing, getting the âs***â kicked out of you is another. We were in most games this year, on average we scored 67 and gave up 68.9. That to mean certainly doesnât look like we had the s*** beat out of us consistently, but Iâm just a #badfan.

Stranger things have happened :-X
To compare Leemire and Briscoe is not only wrong but it is beyond idiotic. I have no problems with your or Briscoe, but Leemire single handedly took over games. He was the best 49er I have seen since I have been associated with this program (2005).

Lemire never shot over 39%, 37% his senior year but Deuce shoots 39% 2 out of 3 years on D1 level and you say he never shot the ball well :o
You say Deuce has never played for a winning team but Henry and Mayfield have never played for a winning team. Braz has lost over 70% of the games he has played. Major has never coached a winning team. So does that mean they are bad players and coaches?
I bet Deuce would have loved to play for a coach like Bobby Lutz where he could avg 10 to 14 shots a game.
Coming close is means nothing in college basketball. Keeping the games close and losing is why we along with Fordham are the worst team in the A-10 over the last 2 years.
Comparing Leemire to Briscoe is not a stretch. Their career stats are basically the same, look it up. I think Leemire was a better all around player. But Leemire had a coach that believed in him and allowed him the freedom to do what he does best ⌠score the basketball.
Iâm pointing out the hypocrisy when a poster says Leemire was a great offensive player and Briscoe was inconsistent/never shot the ball well, when they both shot the same % using similar demographics⌠As a matter of fact given the same min and shots Briscoeâs sophomore year at Charlotte Briscoe shot a better fg%,3pt% and ft% than Leemire his sophomore year.
Bobby had Briscoe lined up to do what Bobby did with Leemire and thats give him freedom to create / score the basketball at will. Major never gave Briscoe that freedom so we will never truly know how good Briscoe would have been here if given 14 shots a game and 30+ min such as Leemire his senior year.
FWIW iâve seen Briscoe single handedly take over games offensively at Charlotte also
Can we just wish Deuce the best and quit caring arguing about how he compares to other players, or helps/hurts the program?
Deuce is gone. End of story. Good luck, and I mean that seriously. I hope you excel wherever you go from here, both on and off the court.
Thatâs really all that needs to be said about this.
Yes iâve got another underdog to root for now. 5â9 Denzel Ingram if he can play defense and offense, P. Henry should come off the bench as a defensive spark. We canât afford to have Henry and Mayfield,Williams in the game at the same time. 32%,32%,11% arc shooters respectively, will ensure another lowly offensive season and Major will be the first Charlotte Mens BB coach to have 3 consecutive losing seasons.
Ive seen enough Henry and Mayfield in the back court together, losing 12 out of 15 games. Horrible outside shooters who canât make foul shots.
Lets go with Ingram and Lester 1,2 who can shoot the ball and free throws and maybe we can win some games
