Dewhurst Observer Article

From today’s CLT Observer…

Dewhurst stays

Kudos to the Observer. That was a very solid article.

Excellent article, complete with recaps of the 2006 & 2007 classes. Exactly what we’ve been looking for.

Great article.

I’ve always said we are fortunate because our local newspaper has the best sports section in the country.

Very nice work. Thank you observer!

For those who won’t read the article, Gibbons has him listed as 122 overall and top 5 among seniors in NC.

Decent job. I would’ve liked to read something that I didn’t already know but decent nonetheless.

To Mike P and Staff … :toast: !

Good article. Not so sure he is a better high school player than Jobey was. Jobey was rated top 60 his senior year. I just don’t want people comparing players to Jobey just because they are white and can shoot. They said the same of Plavich when we came and we clearly saw a difference between him and #31.

Best I remember Jobey was ranked 104 in his class his senior year. Plavich was ranked higher and on some AA lists. These rankings are very political at best. Lutz usually does a good job when we sign someone early. When we miss out on targets then head into the spring and summer is when it usually gets dicey (for everyone).

I would not be surprised to see Dewhurst redshirt a year to put on some size and strength. I think he will be a very productive 4 year player for us that represents the University in a positive way. With his college choices the kid is obviously very bright.

Once you get over 100 does it really matter? I just hope this kid is half of what Jobey was.

WE'RE NOT WORTHY! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!! (BOW...BOW...)

I know Lutz says he plans to use him at the SG spot, but he sounds like a natural Wing from what I’ve read. We haven’t had a SF who can shoot the three since we James Zimmerman or Marlon Thomas. If he’s a step or two faster than JT, Plav, Tolliver or Sager, he could be a real contributor down the road.

Probably not. I doubt any of these gurus that rank these kids have even seen most of the kids they rank between 125 and 250 play. The other problem is if you do not get invited or attend the camps starting in your Jr. year you are usually not noticed unless you blow up. Von Wafer was a good example of this.

i think that lutz and co. make a great training staff. I know people complain about not going to the sweet 16, but how many recruiting classes have we had that were top 16? Lutz does what he can and guys like basden and withers werent rated near as high as what they are now (basden last year). It also why i think a guy with the heart and tenacity of Lee Goldwire is going to make him an outstanding player by his junior year, and why i wish that a guy like chris nance (who busts his ass as hard as anyone) had 3 years left instead of 1.
I am excited to see this many freshman. I think the addition of our strength and conditioning staff and facilities is only going to increase that. I dont care if the guy is 122 or 92, if we can get an avg of 3 guys around that range with the beasley/smith/mike jones once in a blue moon, the top recruiting classes will start coming in year after year. Just think where Bobby can develop those guys too, hope you are ready to open your wallet.

Numbers don’t mean crap. If either of these two had signed with Lousiville or Duke they would instaly shoot into the top 50-75. I’m happy to have them regardless of what # Rivals or Gibbons puts next to their names.
