Sunday Ticket lovers like me, get ready for a bill increase:
In other news, Goodell announced Monday the parameters of the league’s new TV deal with DirecTV. According to ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen, the NFL will receive $1 billion per year for four years, up $700 million from the previous deal.
In the new deal, DirecTV is expected to add expanded elements to its NFL Sunday Ticket package.
I don’t know what other features they could add, unless the customers can start controlling the cameras. They already let you input your fantasy players to keep up with in real time. The Red Zone channel switched to games where a score is about to happen. They condense the games to an hour for later viewing during the week in case you missed it. All of the games are in HD. It better be good for what it’s going to cost.
I had it for the previous 6 seasons. My price went up again last year and I decided it didn’t make sense anymore. As much as I love football, I found I could spend more time on the golf course.
They priced me out last season.

I will be faced with that same decision if it goes up anymore. Golf won’t be a good substitution, though, as Sunday Ticket is cheaper divided into 17 weeks. My wife probably wishes they would double the price. :unhappy:
the NFL is high if they think people are gonna take a rate increase. Unless the economy does a 180 between now and Sept. I can’t see any woman agreeing to this right now.

yeah, I know. But when the Sunday Ticket line item went away , my golf budget was able to increase.
I know a lot of people complain about the speed of the game of baseball — but NFL games have gotten ridiculously slow in recent years. Too many breaks for commericals and play reviews.
I don’t hate the NFL, but I don’t like it the way I used to.
Whatever happened to anti-monopoly laws? Cable & other satelites can’t get Direct Ticket.
Damn Commie bastards.
Talk to the NFL. They allowed someone exclusive rights to carry their out-of-market games. Should they be able to do that? I’m not sure if they are required to put it up for bid or not. So long as you are able to receive DirecTV, in the NFL’s eyes, you can either get DirecTV or not get Sunday Ticket. While it makes the price higher for the end user because there is no competition, that makes the NFL all the richer because the exclusive provider can raise the price. That’s all they care about: their bottom line.
With AT&T and others working to get their wireless TV service up and running, it would not surprise me if they put up a bid for Sunday Ticket before long as a way to get some customers, basically the way DirecTV worked it. TimeWarner evidently has not lost enough business to want to try to get it away from DirecTV, and AT&T is one of the few companies besides TimeWarner that has deep enough pockets to try to get it away from DirecTV.

Being an econ major, the proper way to look at this would be to see which one provides more pleasure and/or benefits per dollar and trhen choose that one. Take your engineering hat off.

Econ hat now on.
6 hours dedicated to playing golf on Sunday = $32 at local course
6 hours of watching Sunday Ticket = $18.82 (over 17 weeks)
I get just as much enjoyment watching football and my Falcons as playing golf, without the weekend wait for every shot. If I want, I can still play golf on Saturday if funds are available. :shades:
