Do we need so many forums?

I understand why seperate forums were created for various segments of Niner news, but it is August & it seems like all Niner “sports related” forums could be consolidated into the same forum. Our topics seem to be too diluted & it would be easier to check out recruiting news at the same time I’m checking out the latest Observer-Bashing or Where-is-Iti thread. We may also discover recruiting being discussed much more if it is included in the main sports forum. Whenever visitors stray over, it looks like we have very few topics on the general sports forum & they often do not realize we even discuss Niner sports on other forums. This is especially true when they access our board through a link. Moderators, please understand that’s my personal opinion & I am in no way attempting to be critical. Also, please please never create a seperate “Media Coverage” Forum.

Good point, o40, but I think this thread is in the wrong place. Perhaps it should be in ‘Feedback’, under “Niner Nation”.

Good points. I like keeping the recruiting stuff separate though, otherwise it gets lost. I think the links to the various forums could possibly be made a little more obvious. Maybe a drop-down box off of the forum category names?

I can consider nixing the one recruiting forum that doesn’t really get any use and maybe we can eliminate the football/name change forums. They were a good idea but it doesn’t seem like either topic generates enough discussion to warrant their own forums. If they’re discussed in the main sports forum and it bothers you, then just don’t respond and the thread will drop down the page.

I agree with Lefty though that the main recruiting forum should remain separate from the main sports forum though. There are several people here that enjoy researching/reading about recruiting news and it just makes it much easier to navigate through the info when it has it’s own forum.

I may wipe out the two NCAA forums as well because they get no use. Most people just created relevant threads as an “OT:” thread in the main sports forum. By removing some of these forums, there will be a bit more emphasis put on the main sports forum.

Actually, they probably think this is a website for the GOP considering 90% of the current discussions are political-based. :stuck_out_tongue: Guess you gotta discuss something during the summer and with no football of our own on the horizon.

Also, I may create a block on the homepage that really puts an emphasis on our main sports forum (and links to it) so that visitors know exactly where we’re talking Niner sports at on this site. That will be an easy way to draw more attention to it.

I’ll work on the forums today and will try to get the block done tonight/tomorrow if I have time. Just nice to tweak the site now instead of when we’re playing ball so keep the suggestions coming.

Over40 (and others), what do you think of the new center block I added on the homepage? I think it at least draws a lot more attention to our main sports page for anyone visiting the site that may not be familar with it.

I’ll probably play around with it some and jazz it up a little but it’s a start.

I also removed a couple of the other Niner forums and I disabled the “Announcement” at the top of the home page. We’ll continue to use it though for any major news surrounding the site.
