Do you blame Sanchez for losing Brice?

That’s what I’m wondering. Is NC the only state that doesn’t allow it for athletic structures?

I think there are a few others. We get around those rules to some degree with our athletic fee. Challenge is those fee increases have to go thru BoG and legislature.

To really rise up we need more corp and private donors. The challenge is well, we suck and even when we were good we still didn’t get the city behind us. To really win we need more money and to get more money we need to win and our track record says even if we win we won’t get much more money.

And since in the new model we don’t even get the joy of watching our stars grow and get better or that they actually give two shits about the school on their jersey it just sucks.

I don’t see a way out honestly.

yeah I dont like the idea either. I could maybe stomach a strategy that could maybe be used to keep our talent out of direct competitors hands by funneling that talent to certain schools who would then in return do the same favor for us in some way immediately or down the road. but I’m sure it would probably break so many unknown rules. like trading I suppose.

like lets say we join some kind of alliance with san diego state, nebraska, stanford, baylor, xavier, gonzaga, florida, dayton and pitt. and lets say if for whatever reason we have a player thats getting fed up with the program and want outs, we can maybe call one of these schools and send them tape. and if they are interested we can maybe nudge said player on our end to try to join one of the program in the circle so they dont directly compete with us for the most part. then maybe down the road they can help us out if they have a player with a similar issue.

but even then I would feel like we are getting the short end of the stick most of the time

I mean I guess we are just a farm system now - but anything that formalizes that is just not something I want.

A billion dollar NIL collective? If that’s the case just shut it down at this point and stop robbing the students.

The Little League World Series in now on national TV. When are the little guys going to demand a share of the ad revenue?

I just don’t know what we are trying to do now. How do we compete in this environment?
I mean we can keep sponsoring sports but we need to drop down and just offer scholarships to kids that want an education and compete with like minded institutions.

Or, you win, start a collective and win mor most teams arent working with a 970 million dollar nil. Stanford already said they wont do nil…and thats stanford

With the amount of money coming in from conference TV contracts etc, no P5 should be collecting an athletic fee from their general student population.

The problem is the hill we have to climb to win at all is insanely steep now and then on top of that IF we win our fanbase and community have not and likely will not support us along the lines it would be required to. Hell we were perennial NCAA participants and it didn’t exactly light our fanbase or community on fire. It would take Biff taking us to a massive bowl game or huge win to out a dent in things.

Add into that that IF we somehow had that kind of money we shouldn’t be giving it to athletes that are damn hired guns, we should be dropping the students fees. Students shouldn’t be covering scholarships for kids that can pay their own tuition.

When we first joined the AAC with Cincinnati, ucf, and Houston what you’re mentioning about public funds was a big disadvantage for us being based in NC. There are many states that allow their universities to divert public funds to athletics, and it can create a pretty large gap over time.

We’re doubly screwed because we’re in Mecklenburg county. There is no political backing in Raleigh for anything associated with the great Meck state.

Hence we also get minimal academic funding as well.

We can’t compete anymore unless we can find someone who wants to dump millions of dollars into paying players.

We do have a chance now in football but basketball is dead until we find a coach who can raise money. I don’t blame Ron or Mike because the hire could have worked out if NIL AND transfer portal didn’t take over. Hunter Dickinson left Michigan as a star to go to Maryland for money. Just hard to back this.

FWIW, Dickinson hasn’t made a decision yet.

Maybe it could have, but I don’t feel we have who we need for coach in this new environment at all.

We are a harder sell from what I see. We play a style the majority of players aren’t gonna want to play for. It’s also harder to sell fans on, hence every thread on this forum.

Right now we need every advantage we can get, including being attractive to players and entertaining for fans to watch.

Ron could be really successful if only the shot clock didn’t exist.
