Dorenzo Hudson - 2007

He’s a rising junior at Forest Hills H.S. in Marshville and also plays for the Charlotte Nets 17. He has a cousin, Jeremy Thompson, 6-6 F, who is a teammate at both Forest Hills and on the Nets. At 185 pounds, Hudson sounds a bit on the skinny side (Byron Dinkons comes to mind!)

2005 HOOP ALLIANCE SPRING INVITATIONAL

Jeremy Thompson (Charlotte Nets 17) – This 6-6 sophomore forward from Forest Hills HS is getting better before your eyes. He possesses a broad set of shoulders that hint at added weight and strength in the future. He is an easy riser who plays with intensity and will come from the weak side to block shots. Thompson is a physical, tough player who is shooting the baseline jumper with more and more confidence.

Dorenzo Hudson (Charlotte Nets 17) – Thompson’s running mate at both Forest Hills and with the Nets, Hudson is almost assured of doing something at least once in every game that will make your jaw drop. He will shoot the pull-up mid range jumper in transition. He can hit the step back three from the corners. Maybe the best thing about his game is that he seems to get better late in the game, when it’s on the line. Solid handle, can pass the ball, and will deck it in traffic and finish at the rack, oft-times with something thunderous or nasty. A 6-4 sophomore!

What about those two kids from Forest Hills

There were two other kids from Forest Hills High School that really impressed me Dorenzo Hudson and Jeremy Thompson, those kids play hard. Hudson can handle the ball, has a nice mid-range game, can shoot the three and can finish. Thompson just seems relentless on defense challenging every shot cleans the boards and finishes strong. These guys in my opinion were the standouts in this camp.

Got this from another board…

There is obviously some bias on that list. I give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe you haven't seen these guys play, Jeremy Thompson, Dorenzo hudson are clearly 2 of the better players in the state of north carolina. I guarantee you there aren't 10 players in the state better. 6'5" point guard averaging 22 points 12 rebounds and 7 assist (Dorenzo Hudson) and a swing man 6'6" tall averaging 4 dunks on any and everybody 18 points 20 rebounds and 8 block shots and your list left them off, give me a break! (Jeremy Thompson)

From everything I have seen/read, he is doing very well at all the camps/clinics and is currently listed as # 2 in NC’s class of 2007- ahead of Eric Wallce and Marhsall Moses.

Tidbit from Bob Gibbons clinic…

Dorenzo Hudson 6’5/185 Forward - Marshville, NC (Forest Hills)
Great-looking young prospect that is gaining serious D-I attention already. Speed could use improvement, but his body is already there. Midrange game showed improvement, but ball-handling somewhat suspect. Should be able to play the 3 in college, so we’d like to see him be more aggressive on the offensive boards.

Also, he cousin Jeremy Thompson is doing very good too and is currently listed as high as # 4 in the state(2007)

Jeremy Thompson 6’6/210 Forward - Marshville, NC (Forest Hills)
Stock rose tremendously at the Fall Clinic. A post player for his high school and also spends the majority of time in the post for his AAU team. However, Thompson was moved to the wing at the Fall Clinic, and performed exceptionally well. Both his jump shot and ball-handling showed improvement and his long wingspan makes him an imposing defender. Needs to make better decisions in the half-court.

Update on Dorenzo Hudson…

Dorenzo Hudson update - Rivals 01-30-06

He is averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds a game for Forrest Hills (15-1). Hudson said he is holding offers from Clemson, East Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. He took in the Georgia-Florida game as well as the Clemson-Wake Forest tilt.

Excuse me while I look into my crystal ball…

OK I see it now. We will offer him, he will take a visit, say he likes us a lot, then sign with some bottom of the barrel ACC or SEC team…

Dorenzo Hudson, a North Carolina native who plans on transferring to Hargrave Military Academy, told Scout.com that Miami is his early leader. Virginia Tech, Clemson, Georgia, East Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest are in the mix. He’d like to hear from Boston College and North Carolina.
In the latest Scout.com rankings, Hudson rocketed up the charts to No. 45 in the country; the No. 13 shooting guard overall.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While it wasn’t his best effort, Dorenzo Hudson did show promise and potential on the final day of the Memorial Day Classic. Hudson’s Charlotte Royals squad took on the Seattle FOH team in an early round contest in the Silver Division tournament.

While it wasn’t his best effort, Dorenzo Hudson did show promise and potential on the final day of the Memorial Day Classic. Hudson’s Charlotte Royals squad took on the Seattle FOH team in an early round contest in the Silver Division tournament. Unfortunately for Hudson his team lost, however, he is one of their best players, but he wasn’t in sync with the team because he’s been out since the Boo Williams Invitational in early April.
“My lower back,” Hudson said of the injury that had sidelined him. “I had problems with my pelvis and this is my first tournament back. I practiced for the first time Wednesday so I knew I was going to struggle a little bit. I did alright though.”

Hudson finished with just three points, but it wasn’t hard to notice the potential. He has the ability to get to the basket, but just couldn’t finish at the rim. He is a legit 6-foot-4 and has a strong frame. Foul trouble also played a role in his low output, as he was sidelined for stretches against Friends of Hoop.

“I try to get in there a little bit and help the team,” he said about driving to the basket. “I got a few fouls and I worked my way out.”

Hudson entered the spring as a regional standout on the outside of most recruiting lists. After a strong junior season where he led Marshville (NC) Forest Hills deep into the state playoffs and a 49-point outburst to open the Boo Williams Invitational, Hudson had solidified his status as a premier recruit.

“(The game) affected me a lot,” Hudson told Scout.com’s Dave Telep. “I started getting a lot of calls and it helped out a lot. I had a whole bunch of people come talk to me and I knew the next few games better teams were on the schedule and it was going to be tough for me to do it again.”

In the latest Scout.com rankings, Hudson is now rated the No. 45 prosect in the country and the No. 13 shooting guard overall, and his recruitment has also picked up.

He also has a bunch of schools trying to get in the mix. The ones recruiting him the hardest are N.C. State, Miami, Georgia, Wake Forest, East Carolina and Virginia Tech.

“It’s going good right now, it’s really not bad,” Hudson said of the recruiting process. “I’m getting a lot of calls from schools right now.”

At this point there is no early leader for Hudson, but he does claim scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Georgia, East Carolina and Wake Forest. Style of play and the coaching staff will factor into his decision the most.

“I’m just looking for a school that fits my style of play. I like to get up and down a little bit and also a good coach that I can communicate with.”

This fall he will take his game to Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military Academy, where Hudson hopes to standout against better competition and also improve his academic standing.

Wake Forest, Clemson, Miami, Boston College and Oklahoma are the schools showing him the most interest. Clemson continues to recruit him hard. Will be visiting Clemson and Wake this weekend.

Hudson is leaving Forest Hills for Hargrave according to the Observer this morning, although sounds kinds of odd. JT Thompson is also leaving but heading to Hope Christian, in Kings Mountain.

JT Thompson, who has reclassified as a junior, has verbally committed to play at Virginia Tech.

Hope Christian, in Kings Mountain, started classes last week.

Hudson, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who is one of the most coveted seniors in the state, told The Enquirer-Journal that he plans to play at Hargrave Military Academy this season. Neither Hargrave coach Scott Roach nor a school spokesman returned calls by press time.

Hargrave starts classes next week.

Neither Hudson nor Thompson, who helped Forest Hills go 28-2 last season, has filled out the necessary paperwork needed to transfer with the Forest Hills guidance department, Tyson said. Forest Hills starts school on Friday. – ryan basen
