Doyel: Cincy doesn't want Prosser; Niners to NIT

[Quote]"And Skip Prosser received some ugly writing on the wall. Since summer, Prosser has been The Next Coach at Cincinnati. Now, in the past few days, Cincinnati has let it leak that, well, Cincinnati might not be able to afford Prosser’s buyout from Wake Forest.

More likely, Cincinnati can’t afford Prosser’s 1-9 ACC record."

So, who is gonna be the new Bearcat coach?

He also mentions that we are now going to the NIT. No surprise there, but it’s nice that he even considered us going elsewhere.

“Smells like NIT: Oklahoma State and Charlotte suffered NCAA-crippling losses. Oklahoma State lost to Texas A&M and Charlotte to Wake Forest.”

I’d love to see us get home games vs some big time schools. NIT all the way.

The NIT is about money. They want full arenas or guaranteed money from the host schools. Charlotte can’t do either.

disappointing, but if we could get some home games it’d be nice.

That is normally the case. However, the NIT is now “owned” by the NCAA, so it will be interesting to see who they take and what (if any) changes are made.

Personally, I don’t think it’ll be much different - guaranteed sellouts in bigger markets/arenas - but there’s a chance they’ll go against the grain a little bit. It would be cool to see some teams from “major” conferences go to smaller/mid-major schools and what not. Who knows. We’ll see in a month or so.

EDIT: Kudos to the numerous people who pointed this out months ago (that it would cost a ton to buyout Prossers’ contract). That said, the 1-9 ACC record probably does tarnish the allure of bringing him back to Cincy.

It only took Doyel three weeks to figure out the obvious. I’m not surprised. Cincy is already paying Huggy several million per year, they sure don’t want to have to pay Wake more money on top of that. Way to do your homework Mr. Doyel!!! :mallet:  :hammer:
