Respnse from Dave Telep via Twitter:
We just updated the rankings today. Nothing to do with where he went to school. Another set of eyes on the rankings
Whatever that means.
ESPN Grading Scale:
94-96: High-major prospect
Player is the centerpiece to a high-major program who starts three to four years.
92-93: High-major minus prospect
Player has the potential to significantly contribute to a high-major program over four years.
89-91: Mid-major plus prospect
Player is a fringe high-major recruit who contributes or a standout mid-level recruit.
This explains it all. Once a “centerpiece to a high-major program who starts three to four years” signs with a program which ESPN considers to be a mid-major, his grade must be adjusted in order to fit the school he signed with.
College Basketball is about perception, you are either perceived as a school that lands Top 100 players or a school that doesn’t land Top 100 players, future recruits know this, and it is difficult to climb up the ladder when the system shafts us.
Nickerson is the #1 SF in the nation for 2011 to me though.
I hear a new movie is in the works, starring this very thread, “Speed III, Wrath of Wakeniner” Plot: Evil genius Wakeniner has devised a virus that makes all computers connected to the internet explode the very moment the E. Victor Nickerson thread dissapears off the main page of NNN. Don’t miss the thrills this summer as Niner Nation fights to save millions of lives and struggles against time to thwart the psychotic Wakeniner’s plans! Coming soon to a theater near you…

I cry foul!! Somebody should compare Nickerson’s prior rating with this new one. It sounds like two different players. The first opinion was “singing his praises” and the last one makes it sound like
he’s a project. I tend to believe the first opinion since it must have gotten sabotaged by some idiot at ESPN.
