E. Victor Nickerson - 2011 SF - signed LOI to Charlotte

Supposedly visiting Depaul this weekend according to a Depaul forum post. Colorado visit is on the 15th.

Will be making a decision on his birthday (10/27/10)
E. Vic tweeted that he is on his way to Depaul.
Purnell keeps on taking our recruits even after leaving Clemson.

Any update from his trip to DePaul?
Any update from his trip to DePaul?
Have not seen any updates. Depaul did have a SF commit May, not sure how that could play into things.

Looks like Depaul signed a SF in 2010 and have one lined up for 2011 in Jamie Crockett out of Illinois who has already signed an LOI. They also have a verbal from a SG for the 2011 class so not sure what room there would be for Nickerson.

Got to get E Vick.

I misread the tweet posted. I thought that meant he had committed to DePaul. Doh!! :blank:

2011 SF Victor Nickerson Norcorss HS (GA) was visted by Notre Dame, UNC Charlotte, Depaul and Penn State this past week

That’s not good news. He’s blowing up big time. Makes me nervous

Rivals blurb

“My last one will be to Colorado. I leave on Thursday,” said Nickerson, who stands 6-foot-6.5. “Within a week after I come back from Colorado, I’ll decide.”

What stands out to Nickerson about each of his four finalists?

“At Charlotte, the bond between myself and everybody on the coaching staff,” Nickerson replied. "With Wichita State, I like the facilities, their practice gym and arena. And DePaul, I like their weight room facilities, the location of their campus and their housing.

I think it will be us or DePaul. I cannot imagine that the arean and practice gym will be the one thing that tilts the decision. I think DePaul with the location is a big influence along with living arrangements. I still think at the end of the day most kids will look at the relationship with the coach as the #1 decision as they are going to be with these guys everyday for four years.

Shocks me that playing time isn’t a positive for him and Charlotte. Depaul signed a SF last year and again this year and after this year we have 0 SF’s on the roster.

This. I know some kids want to be on a major stage, but you aren’t getting on the stage if you’re riding the pine. Go somewhere that has a spot open for you and where you believe the coaching staff and players will be best for you (as wood said). The material stuff is nice (practice facility, special dorms, weight room, arena, etc.), but you will still be miserable if the main two things don’t work out.

0-16 in the Big East isn’t a big stage.

Purnell is there now. DePaul has been in the hunt only when the coach has been able to keep the prized Chicago recruits at home. Wainwright was not able to do that. Leito did somewhat, and Kennedy did a fairly decent job landing a few. They will still have more games on TV than we will even as atrocious as they have been. With that said, E. Vic still needs to come here.

Doesn’t matter. DePaul hasn’t ever been in the hunt in the Big East.

When we are down, we are still middle of the pack. Depaul’s best years (do they have any in recent history?) are middle of the pack, at best.

They will be soon. So long as they finish in the Top 8 they’ll usually get a Dance card. Purnell has a good track record of turning programs around, and I think he’ll do it there. I’m not claiming he’s going to be a Big East frontrunner every season, but he’ll at least be top half of the Big East within 3 seasons. He’s too good of a recruiter in an area with with lots of good recruits too not make it happen.

They might be soon. DePaul will probably have a good season every 3 or 4 years, but I don’t see them as being a top 8 team every year. This isn’t the ACC, there are 7 teams that are good year in, year out and 3 more that are programs with much better history than DePaul.

If he likes major and the guys, this is a no brainer. We’re losing everyone but Sirin at that position after this year.

It’s a dated evaluation, but I still like the similarities between what was said about him, and Evan Turner, whom Major coached at OSU. This could be a really ideal situation for him to play right away, and learn from a guy who helped make Turner into an All American.

Unfortunately, he’s a terrible coach, though.
