We definitely didnât lose anything by him transferring. Definitely overrated in the recruiting game.
He had a better season last year for them, and seemed to be playing an integral part to their team. I wonder what happened to him this year.
If he had stayed, he wouldâve graduated last year. But I think he couldâve helped us out, even if he ended up being overrated. At least we know now that it wasnât just the terrible coaching that was holding him back here (I think Valparaiso has a good coach).
Not sure if this is more indicative that EVN shouldnât have transferred or that Majorâs recruiting ability was slightly overrated. Heâs 9th on their depth chart as a Sr.

Yet another example of Curry exceeding expectations.
Iâd say Thorne, Dorn and Woods all going to P5 schools snuffs out any possibility that his recruiting was overrated.

clt says just going to a âP5â school doesnât make you a good player.

power five doesnt mean a lot. there a lot of bad power five programs. i dont think his recruiting was the issue.

I dunno. All 3 programs are kind of mediocre right now. NCSU has recently had some good seasons. But WF and Ill have been bad for a while.
I felt Dorn and Lester were Majorâs 2 best recruits. Outside of those 2, Iâd say there were a lot of serviceable players.
I would include Demario Mayfield high up in a list of Majorâs best recruits. I would also include him high up in a list of Majorâs dumbest recruits.
Henry was his best recruit that came here, surprised he hasnât been mentioned. It wouldâve been interesting to see what Henry couldâve done with a better coaching staff (for many reasons). Izundu probably wouldâve been his best recruit if he doesnât get fired.
Dorn was good and quite the steal given how lowly rated he was. NCSU is down this year, but theyâve been recruiting at a really high level in recent years, I donât know how you argue that they couldnât easily fill that spot with at least a 4-star recruit. That Dorn was given a scholarship speaks to how good he was. Illinois is a step down in terms of recruiting, but still pretty good. Wake Forest seems like the least impressive of the 3, but still the fact they are giving Woods a scholarship suggests he was better than filling the spot with a 3 or 4-star recruit. And Izundu was coming here, but instead ended up at talent-rich Miami.
Not every recruit pans out even when a team is recruiting really well. On average Major was getting the caliber player that shouldâve led to better success with good coaching, and he did it in spite of some really crappy seasons. I know itâs hard to give Major credit for doing some things well, but keep in mind that the fact he was a good recruiter despite our programâs fallen stature actually helps to show that he and his staff were especially poor at developing players into good teams.
Too bad we didnât have any asst. who could recruit decent players. Are Vandross and Oliver still in organized basketball?

It does show that Major was a good recruiter, no doubt. However, Gottfried and Manning are both on the hot seat. It would be quite ironical if they were both fired before Woods and Dorn stepped foot on the court in a real game. :))
Gottfried isnât getting fired this year with 2 sweet 16s in 4 years. Iâd be shocked if Manning did, either. WF has shown some improvement and heâs only in year 2.

On Manning I agree, he has some time.
