Lutz sucked. Major has had his share of sucky moments. Future coaches will inevitably suck. I donât get what the issue is with accurately calling out a coach in the moment. You Lutz defenders wrote off Major almost day 1, and have gotten off on watching the program fail. Itâs obnoxious. Lutz deserved to be fired. If Major gets fired he will deserve it as wellâŚbut it will be in no way a validation of the idea that we âshoulda stuck with Lutzâ.

True story with a little editing
LOL didnt I mention that precise logical fallacy early this morning in the shoutbox?
If Major turns out to be the wrong hire, that doesnt mean whatever hairbrained opinion someone on this board about another coach, including keeping Lutz, was automatically validated. Thatâs beyond stupid.
Case in point: Buzz Peterson (33-57 @ UNCW, including back to back 10-20 seaons the last 2 years). Yet we had some hotheads basicly screaming his name as loud as they could. What a disaster that would have been.
I asked that but doesnât seem to be any others thinking thatâs the problem.
Could these guys be leaving because the conference we are going to is so shitty?
I donât think it has anything to do with âmarquee sport,â I just donât believe many of our guys signed on expecting to play in a conference quite on the level of our future home.
To be fair to major, heâs coming off a 20 win NIT appearance season. Iâll wait until after next year to see if I want him fired.

If the guys leaving were all 4 star recruits then maybe that would make sense. The level of these guys really is not all the different than what many of the CUSA schools are getting anyway. If the coaching staff was unable to navigate this then they are just as guilty as Bobby was of not being able to guide the program through a conference change. It also wasnât like we were losing going into the new league. Coaching staff should have been able to sell the shift as a way to roll in and conquer.

I can count on one hand the number of guys in recent memory whoâve transferred up a step on the conference ladder.
In fact, Seth Curry is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
If these guys are transferring out because they think theyâre too good to play in C-USA⌠theyâre up for a rude awakening in the Sun Belt.
Uh, guys transfer up all the time.
I donât think EVN and Clark are transferring up.
I could see Clark transferring up. Tons of potential. Now Iâm not saying he would be starting but Clark has talent.
No, I donât either. Guys that transfer up from Charlotte are rare. Gerrity did it with a pit stop and Grier did it (although at the time, program might not have been a step up).
But, in college basketball at large, it happens all the time.
I could see Clark transferring up. Tons of potential[/quote]
Not gonna happen. Guys that transfer up put up huge numbers typically. A guy like Henry or Clayton would do it. Not a guy like Clark.

I donât disagree, if the kids were happy the staff probably should been able to sell it. But going from a league that can get an at-large to a league where you must win the conference tournament to see the NCAAs seems like a big shift. I think most of our kidsâ biggest realistic dream in college basketball is a NCAA berth, and that just got a lot more unlikely.
I donât think it was that unlikely. We should have been in a position to compete for the CUSA championship.
Besides, EVN and Clark are likely going to end up at programs where they have to win their conference tournament to get in as well.

Maybe they do. I just donât recall any off the top of my head.
As far as going from an at-large league to a one-bid league⌠honestly I donât see the A10 being much of a multi-bid league without X, Temple, etc. The schools that would get the extra bids wonât have the marquee teams on their schedules and tournament resumes, and wonât have the stature of a conference with X and Butler as recruiting pulls.
I think SLU and VCU will fight each other for a few years, but one or the other will become a Memphis or Gonzaga and the rest will fall in line behind them.
I donât want Major fired, but I have to believe he is on the hot seat. I certainly donât feel comfortable with the direction of the program any longer and I hope that I am wrong.
Also, Lew, Louisville featured a guy who transferred up.
Itâs pretty unrealistic to think a coach coming off a 20+ win season and our first post season game in 6 years deserves to get fired in the off season because one of our second string players is transferring. Thatâs just stupid. However, I agree with you guys that losing 2 of your own recruits and having nobody signed for the next 2 years is setting yourself up for failure. Its not looking good at all but the signing period is not over, much less next season. Major did more with this group last year than anyone expected, but heâs going to have to do more with less this year or heâs a gonner. I felt like this coming season was NCAAâs or bust for Major anyway. Also, agree that Lester is a starter from day one. We have a decent 6 or 7 guys, just need a couple more bigs. I just donât know if there are any out there. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out, but the sky hasnât fallen yet.
Exactly. Major had a lot of leeway, but that is gone. No wiggle room. Gonna have to have a masterful coaching job or heâs gone. Of course, if he has that great of a year, heâll probably be gone anyway. Letâs hope for that so that we donât have to pay him.
