I seem to recall liking the 2k game more than the EA one.

So it would be just a game mode in their NBA game, and feature a limited # of teams, until they determined if a full blown game was viable.

I was kinda rooting for them because I liked the 2k college hoops game more than EAs, but this seems like they aren’t fully committed.

Ughhh. I remember the gameplay being a little better for the 2k games, but most fans are saying if 2k makes the game only the top programs will be included. Lame if true.

Why would the school not work with both? 2k was better, but not having all schools would suck.

EA was going to do every school.

2K is doing an exclusive licensing deal with only top schools because they want money.

Many top schools signed with 2K because they also like money.

EA backed out because they also like money and realize a CBB without big schools won’t bring enough sales.

2K has now announced it will not be a full game but merely a DLC add-on to NBA 2K because they like money.

If the DLC “gets enough sales” then they’ll make a full game with only big schools.

My guess is the DLC won’t generate enough in sales. It’ll probably be forever relegated to a yearly DLC offer which will renew top-schools’ licensing deal. That would naturally box-out EA from ever developing a game.

Either that or it won’t generate enough sales and it’ll justify both companies it’s a failed project and they won’t bother making another game for a decade.

Still don’t understand why the schools would agree to an exclusive deal. 2k would have to pay so much that it would be a huge loss for them. Or you’d think so anyway.

Probably because the payout is larger for the larger schools. EA paid each school a hierarchal amount for their licenses plus to each player in CFB.

2K is focusing on a smaller pool and therefore can payout more money per school. Who knows if they’re even going to have real players or not. If not, it means more money to give to the schools.

I’m sure the deal went something like “we can give you X amount more than EA could ever give you”

Plus schools don’t like their brands ‘tarnished’ being next to smaller schools. Or at least the broadcast companies don’t like it.

As DLC only, it will fail. Greed is not only going to ruin this for the fans but for the schools and players as well. Just plain dumb.

But it actually succeeded because a small portion of schools made much more money. And for 2K it succeeded because now they have no competition and will make extra money for very little effort.

It all worked as intended!
