Charlotte’s Eddie Basden is the third-consecutive 49er to earn Conference USA Player of the Week honors for his efforts during games of Feb. 14-20, as selected by a panel of media covering the conference. The honor is Basden’s second in the span of three weeks. The senior has led the 49ers’ to a perfect 5-0 record in February and to within a half-game of league-leader Louisville. The Washington, D.C., native recorded back-to-back double-doubles in conference wins over DePaul and Tulane.
Eddie Basden, Charlotte
Senior, Forward/Guard, Washington, D.C.
Basden posted double-doubles in a pair of Charlotte wins, averaging 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. He matched his career-high with 27 points at Tulane. The Conference USA and 49ers all-time steals leader added nine steals (4.5 per game) and eight assists (4.0 per game). He is ranked third in the nation with 75 steals and ESPN.com’s Jay Bilas touted the swingman as “the nation’s top defender” on College Game Day. Basden shot .533 from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the foul line.

I bet this makes page 12 tomorow in the Observer.
Won't happen, Mike P said so in a previous post...
We don't run players of the week on college or high school sports, not even the ACC. We run them on NFL and NBA only if they're with the Panthers or Bobcats. Just not something we do.
Fowler on the Niners in the Charlotte Observer..., Mike P, you hearing this?...
Just how often do the Panthers or Bobcats win Player of the Week honors? I suppose it’s not news-worthy that the local, nationally ranked college team’s players have been selected conference Player of the Week three weeks running.
NICE… I knew he had a good shot at it since Garcia didn’t do much last night. 2 POW awards should certainly help his chances for POY.
Seems like the Big O. could at least mention the awards in the notes section of gameday articles… especially when one of the hometown players wins. does it take up tooo much room? Too much trouble? After all, it is sports news… right?
We'll have a mention of Basden tomorrow, only because it's three Niners in a row and twice in three weeks for him. That makes it unusual and newsworthy.
Thanks for yet again making it completely clear that fan/reader input had NOTHING to do with the decision. It’s all due to the brilliant god-like knowledge of the elites at the Observer.
Why some of you pay $.50/copy for that attitude is beyond me.
I couldn’t care less if you stick to your precious guidelines or not. I don’t buy the Observer and never will, as long as the present attitude continues.
As long as you continue to ignore reader input, and as long as you constantly make a point to claim that it’s not because of reader input that you make any decisions, you will continue to make enemies and lose customers.

If I made coverage decisions based on the tone of this board toward me, how much would you get?
That comment was completely uncalled for Persinger. Enough of the self-righteousness, it's gotten old.
But if the truth is known, if you made decisions based on the tone of this board, you’d sell more newspapers. Maybe, the readers should complain to someone higher up at K-R than you, since you seem to know all the answers to what the readers want to see.
