A few days ago I noticed that I could no longer log into my 49er Express or email. I kept trying over the next few days and finally saw that my account had been disabled. Today I finally called student computing and they said that since I graduated that is had been disabled and no longer exists. Yes, I knew that was going to happen eventually…but where was the notice! It stinks because I used that account for a lot of things that I am still involved with school related. My FSL’s were pledged from that account, I just ordered my App. State road trip tickets from that address, and my alumni newsletter comes to that address. Now I cannot receive new notices for any of those things. Personally I think Alumni should be able to maintain an account as long as it shows activity over a given period. Alumni can have an on-campus library card so why not access to email. That tells me right there that the account in still in the system…somewhere. I am more pissed about not getting any notice that is was going to be disabled…thanks IT Dept.
When did you graduate? I heard somewhere that you can use your @uncc.edu email for up to a year after you graduate.
Get gmail. gmail > all others
I thought you could use it for up to a year.
we need @alumni.uncc.edu

You can used it until you don’t take any classes for two consecutive semesters (1 year). I surpassed that mark since I graduated in May 07. I just think they should give you a little notice before they just delete everything. I have other email addresses, so no biggie there. It would be nice if Alumni could have university email as a resources for communicating with the University. Among other things, access to the gyms without having to pay that stupid fee and being with a current student. I guess I might have to enroll in a aclass or two to keep all these perks…hey I could start playing Flag Football with Pure Playaz again too! NOT!

The overhead for alumni email for all alumni is expensive. We had that perk at Case, which has a fraction of the number of people. The IT dept finally had to trim it to push mail to an alternate email address.
That year is there to give you enough time to transfer important emails to a new account.
I know that people at school are working on switching the email system to Google, so if that happens im sure we can all get email as alumni
Wait a sec…that means im gonna lose my email after this semester. damn.
I’ll agree with Brent. When I tried to log in one day and found out that I couldn’t access it was kindof a hassl. I don’t’ think I’ve got anything important headed there (except my facebook user is still that non-existent address). But I didn’t know it was going to go away so I didn’t have a chance to make sure nothing was still directed there.

understood, but they could implement a system like Yahoo does that if an account remains unused then it gets deleted after X days/months. Not everyone will use it, but a lot would. The problem is not the fact that they don’t offer email to alumni…its that no notice was sent out saying it would be deleted. You could say well you know you had a year…but when does that year start…I graduated May 12, 2007…it was just disabled last week (Thursday)…approx. 1 yr 4 months later…again no notice. We get those notices to change our passwords every 6 months…I recently changed mine…so why not say it then. It would be nice if something like Gill stated happens with Google. I just think its better to have a completely separate email for University correspondence. Afterall the only reason I care at all is because thats where I will (would have) received any notification of my FSL pledges and my App. State Tickets…now I have to look up Kelly in the AD’s email address and change my information that is on file. Would have been nice to just hit “reply” to the email confirmation of my purchases.
Even a nice forwarding system would rock. For any emails that you missed ya know?
